For a reference to this look at I Samuel 30:12-14. We find the same expression as in Matthew 12:40. I Samuel 30:1 shows how this situa tion existed. We see the same in Esther 4:16, 5:1. There is no real help to push the day of the crucifix ion back to Thursday or Wednesday, since the resurrection is said to have occurred on the third day. Consider Matthew 16:21, 17:23, 20:18-19; Luke 24:21; and I Corinthians 15:4. There are many fine Bible scholars who believe that Christ may have died on Thursday or even Wednes day. They are entitled to their views. Scripture does show, however, that if a day had been once entered on, even for a few minutes, the whole 24 hours were reckoned to the person who had so entered on the day. Ac cording to Jewish reckoning, legal ly our Lord was in the grave three days and three nights. Our Lord lit erally fulfilled what He said that He would do with three days and three nights in the earth. It is the glori ous event, not the exact time reckon ing, which is vital.

in which it may manifest itself. As far as crusades are concerned, we believe the Lord is leading us to emphasize the positive gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord may call some to a ministry of anti-commu nism, but this is not our consuming purpose. The Lord uses different peo ple for various purposes to accomp lish His divine will. Q . Lodi, Calif. — “I f Matthew 12:40 is not literally true, then Jesus Christ didn’t know what He was talking about. I f this were true, then He wouldn’t have been God.” A. This passage is a literal state ment. Christ always knew what He was talking about. We need to con sider from the Bible how three days and three nights are reckoned. In Jewish accounting, any portion of a day, an hour or even a minute, was considered an entire day. Christ said He was going to be in the grave three days and three nights. This doesn’t have to be 72 hours at all.
