Ulsoor Lake: A Serene Landmark in the Heart of Bengaluru Just 5 km from ShangriLa Bengaluru, Ulsoor Lake also known as Halasuru Lake offers a peaceful escape amid the city’s energy. Originally built in the 16th century by Kempe Gowda II and later redesigned under British commissioner Bowring, the lake spans 50 hectares with charming islands and a lush 3 km shoreline Early mornings and golden evenings bring out herons, kingfishers and migratory birds, making it a local favourite for birdwatching. You’ll often see paddle boats gliding across the water or anglers casting quietly from the banks. Ulsoor Lake has seen a quiet revival since the early 2000s, thanks to the Madras Engineer Group (MEG) and civic efforts clearing water hyacinths, adding silt traps, and reviving aquatic life. Just a short walk away is Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Bengaluru’s largest Gurudwara, known for its peaceful setting and daily langar. Also nearby are the historic Someshwara Temple and Ramakrishna Math, making a visit to the lake a blend of nature, culture and calm. Experience the heart of Halasuru Lake, from quiet corners to postcard-perfect frames, with a little help from our team. To plan your visit, speak to our concierge at +91 80 4512 6100.

A slice of hope: how cake can help save a child’s sight Iksha Foundation, started in 2010 by a small team in Bengaluru, exists so no child loses vision or life to retinoblastoma, a childhood eye cancer that can often be cured if caught early. Every day in India, four children are born with this disease, and one in four doesn’t survive because awareness is low and diagnosis comes too late. Iksha steps in to change that story: by funding life-saving treatment, paying hospital bills directly, and helping children get prosthetics and visual aids. They also support schooling and run awareness campaigns in regional languages, so families can recognise early signs sooner. Working closely with hospitals in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, Iksha meets each family personally, assessing need and ensuring help reaches where it matters most. Supported by individual donors, Shangri-La Bengaluru supports them as a corporate partner. Iksha Foundation quietly turns compassion into action. From August 13–15 , our Lobby Lounge turns sweet treats into real change. Every cake, cupcake or pastry you buy during our Independence Day Bake Sale supports IKSHA Foundation’s work with children battling retinoblastoma. Come by, share a slice with friends, and know that each bite helps a child see tomorrow a little brighter. Because sometimes, helping really is a piece of cake.
Chef Tikka Singh takes over Ssaffron again!! Nine days of tandoor magic
It’s a big deal when Chef Tikka Manpreet Singh returns to Ssaffron and this August, we’re making it his most memorable visit yet. Born and raised in Chandigarh, he’s built his culinary reputation by preserving authentic Punjabi recipes and cooking “dil se” from the heart and soul. He sources spices from Punjab, churns mustards into his gravies, and cooks in desi ghee to recreate flavours that feel like home. On his first visit here, guests couldn’t stop talking about dishes like Nimbu Achari Machi Tikka, salmon marinated in pickle, spices and brightened with lemon, and Tandoori Anari Jhinge , prawns infused with pomegranate cooked in clay ovens. That fine balance of punchy, smoky, tangy and fresh is his hallmark. What makes this visit different is the stories and recipes rescued from undivided Punjab, passed down by grandparents; that he blends with refined technique.
We’re calling it the “ Most Visited Punjabi Affair in Bengaluru .” Tables will fill fast. Reserve early to be part of it.

The Quiet Soul of Yataii Meet Yeemi Ningshen. A gentle force behind the authenticity of our Japanese dining experience. There’s a quiet confidence to Yeemi Ningshen who is calm, composed, always attentive. At Yataii, that presence doesn’t go unnoticed. She moves with grace, serves with intent, and carries with her a deep respect for the Japanese culture that Yataii represents. “Japanese hospitality is so deliberate and thoughtful, every gesture matters,” she says. “It’s something I’m still learning every day, but I love it. The more I understand the culhture, the more I’m able to reflect that in the way I serve.” Yeemi, who studied Hotel and Hospitality Administration at IHM Guwahati and holds an MBA in Tourism and Hospitality, is no stranger to guest expectations. But it’s her willingness to learn and her quiet dedication to detail that truly shines. She takes the time to understand not just what’s on the plate, but why it’s there, how dishes are meant to be enjoyed, what they represent, and how best to present them to someone discovering them for the first time. Her personal favourites? “The Flamed Sushi Nigiri is always a lovely way to start, it is light, elegant and easy to enjoy. And I often recommend the Chicken Ramen Bowl and Sauteed Yakitori . Guests are always amazed at how delicate and rich it tastes,” she shares with a smile. It’s this kind of insight which is not just simple but thoughtful and grounded in experience that makes Yeemi such a valuable part of the Yataii story. Her presence adds a layer of warmth and authenticity to the fine dining experience, reminding us that hospitality is not just in the food, but in the people who serve it.
Claypot Stories from China’s Hearth Now simmering at Shang Palace Long before gas stoves or modern kitchens, Chinese families gathered around slow fires, their meals gently bubbling in humble clay vessels. Claypot cooking isn’t just a technique, it is history rooted in centuries-old village kitchens across Guangdong, Sichuan and beyond. The porous clay retains heat beautifully, letting ingredients cook gently and flavours deepen slowly. No rush, just patience and purpose. At Shang Palace, our new Claypot Menu by Chef Xu honours this tradition. The Seafood Claypot , with squid, fish and prawns, evokes the southern coast. Chicken with shallots and Chinese wine carries the comfort of Cantonese home kitchens. And for those who like boldness, the Lamb and Onion Claypot , spiced with cumin and king chilli, is full of depth. Vegetarians can explore flavour-rich combinations like mushroom and water chestnut, crispy beans, or mixed vegetables with lotus stem , each cooked till tender, fragrant and beautifully harmonised. It’s comfort food, elevated. A dish that arrives bubbling, to be shared and savoured.

From Vineyard to Table: Curated Pairings at Caprese As the cellar doors open for our wine flash sale, Caprese offers guests a curated peek into the elegance of Italian winemaking . Our team has selected a red and a white varietal that complement the warmth and lightness of our newly launched Seasonal Caprese Menu. A Montepulciano from the Abruzzo region, known for its soft tannins and ripe red fruit notes, makes a graceful match with hearty plates like the Burrata Fagottini or the Branzino con Di Salsa Broccoli . The wine’s subtle spice and smooth finish echo the earthy depth of truffle and the umami of slow-roasted seabass. Meanwhile, Chenin Blanc , a fresh, floral and lightly textured pour, brings a touch of brightness to delicate starters like the Insalata Alla Caprese 2.0 or a bowl of Seafood Bisque. Its citrus zest and minerality heighten the herbs and oceanic notes in the dish, offering a refreshing contrast. Chef has personally worked to align each pour with the seasonal produce and flavours on the plate. It’s not just a new menu, it’s a toast to thoughtful pairings and timeless Italian spirit.
