"After the meal, they asked if we could possibly stay over night, but we had told them earlier that we must return. W e then spoke to them again, had prayer, and left for our Home in Beirut, leaving these dear people with mixed feelings.” Write for the 4-page report on a Trip to the Bedouins. George E. Farther into the Wight By Mrs. Gordon H. Smith

The Gospel in Rzehiel By Thomas Guthrie

These reprinted sermons are from the burning pen of an outstanding minister of the Free Church of Scot land of a century ago. Oddly, the 22 messages cover only Ezekiel 36:16-36. Here is eloquence of the old school combined with a deep insight into the Word of God. His illustrations are drawn from every area of life. 395 pages; cloth; Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, Mich.; $2.95. The R o ly Spirit By John Owen The full title of this book is The H oly Spirit—His Gifts and Power Exposition of the Spirit’s Name, Na ture, Personality, Dispensation, Op erations and Effects. The author was one of the greatest of the Puritan Divines who flourished in England during the 1600’s. Massive learning, thorough exegesis, and deep devo tion characterize this work. This book will help to deepen the spiritual life of all who read it. 256 pages; cloth; Kregel Publications, Grand Rapids, Mich.; $3.95. The Medical iMnyuaye of E.uke By William Kirk Hobart This very interesting and important study of the medical words and phrases which are common to the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles is a reprint offered by the Co-operative Reprint Library. It pre sents a comprehensive treatment of this intriguing subject with the pur pose of showing that both of these scriptural writings are the work of the same individual—an individual who was well acquainted with the medical terminology of the day. An examination of this work by Dr. Ho bart could leave only the conclusion that Luke, the beloved physician, was the author of these two books of the Bible. This is a technical work and is most valuable to the student, pastor, or teacher who has a knowledge of New Testament Greek. To point out one example from this text, the inci dent of the healing of the demoniac in the synagogue of Capernaum might be noted, as recorded in Luke 4:35— “And Jesus rebuked him, say ing, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of

A veteran missionary to French Indo-China tells in a charming style about the preaching of the gospel in that much publicized land. The read er is constantly coming across names familiar from the daily newspapers during the last year or two. The cruel custom of sawing off children’s front upper teeth as described will stir the desire of the reader to bring the light to these benighted people. The lighter touches of humor relieve the strain of the bizarre. 247 pages; cloth; Zon- dervan Publishing House, Grand Rap ids, Mich.; $2.50. America’ s Spiritual R ecovery By Edward L. R. Elson President Eisenhower’s pastor, min ister of the National Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C., here re views the evidences of a renewal of spiritual life in our country. Many facets of the national scene come in for notice— “Washington, symbol of the awakening,” Billy Graham’s cam paigns, the need for recovery from our national “moral lapse.” Some will miss, amid all the good things in this book, the emphasis on person al salvation for sinners through the blood of Christ. J. Edgar Hoover has written the introduction to the book, which is inscribed to the President. 189 pages; paper; Fleming H. Revell Co., Westwood, N.J.; $2.50. The Philosophy of Revelation By Herman Bavinck Dr. Bavinck was professor of The ology at the Free University of Am sterdam, the Netherlands, at the be ginning of this century. This volume consists of The Stone Lectures for 1908-1909 at Princeton Theological Seminary and four additional lectures prepared about the same time. The author’s name guarantees his con servative Reformed position, and the book bears out this expectation. De velopments in philosophy and the ology since Bavinck’s day naturally are not reflected in these discussions. The volume, as an addition to his Reformed Dogmatics is an important contribution to historical theology. 349 pages; cloth; Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., Grand Rapids, Mich.; $3.50.
