the word “ SIN” on each of the hearts.) LESSON: Josiah was one of Israel’s good kings, and he realized the neces sity for celebrating the Passover. In 2 Chronicles 35:1, we read, “More over Josiah kept a passover unto the Lord in Jerusalem.” This wise and good king knew that it was necessary to keep before his people the truths related to the pass- over. God had said to Israel through Moses when they were in the Egyp tian bondage, “ . . . when I see the blood, I will pass over you” (Ex. 12:13). I want to use these two hearts to show us the purpose of the Passover. They remind us of the children of Is rael, both having the word “ SIN” written upon them. Sin is a condition of the heart before it evidences itself in action. We will drop some of this clear water on one of these hearts and see if it takes away the word “ SIN” . No, clean thoughts and clean actions will not take away sin which is already in the heart. There is just one way to be cleansed from sin. In Egypt God said, “ when I see the blood, I will pass over you.” I will drop some red ink on the sin and we shall see what hap pens. You no longer see the word “ SIN” . It is covered with the red. God no longer sees the sin of our hearts when we have accepted Christ as Saviour and have allowed His blood to take away our sin (1 John 1:7). God sees only the blood of Christ. I hope we now better understand why the king commanded that the Passover be kept. The children of

OBJECT LESSONS continued Josiah was one of Judah’s good kings. It was said of him, . . he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left” (2 Chr. 34:2).

OBJECTS: A promissory note for $100 and a check for the same amount dated two months later. LESSON: How many of you ever made a promise and didn’t keep it? It is wrong to break promises. Soon peo ple will not believe you at all if you do not keep your promises. In the business world, when one person owes another a certain amount of money he often gives a written promise to pay on a certain date. This promise is called a promissory note. I thought you would be interested in seeing one of these written prom ises. Here it is. It is dated two months ago. It reads, “Two months from this

He sent one of the scribes to the house of the Lord, and while there, the scribe was told by the high priest that the book of the law had been found in God’s house. It was taken to the king and when he heard it read, he tore his clothes and said, “ Go ye, enquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, con cerning the words of this book that is found” (2 Ki. 22:13). He wanted to have his life and the life of his peo ple guided by the commandments of the Lord. We may never need a compass to guide us, but we are constantly need ing God’s guidance. He has given us the Bible (such as I hold in my hand) and the Holy Spirit in order that we may be guided correctly. If we follow His guidance, we will be assured of victory and blessing even as King Joash was blessed and given victory. Of him we read, “ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Ju dah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images. And they brake down the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces” (2 Chr. 34:3,4).

date I promise to pay William Smith $100.” The note is signed by Sam Jones. The time has come for the pay ment, and here is a check to pay the note. It reads, “ Pay to the order of William Smith, $100.” It, too, is signed by Sam Jones. When a note is paid by check, the one who receives the check goes to the bank and gets the money. He then can use the money. This note reminds me of a promise which God made in Zeph. 3:15, “ The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.” Again in the 17th verse we read, “ The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” Because of the promises of God, the children of Israel were told to sing and rejoice. “ Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem” (Zeph. 3:14). God expected His people in that day and this to accept His promises and rejoice because of them. END.

Israel obeyed his command, for we read, “ And the children of Israel that were present kept the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days. And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet” (2 Chr. 35:17,18).
