mi Lesson Story.—We had such a beautiful story last week about P au l being saved by his nephew. The nephew was not afraid to go to the chief captain when he. heard the wicked men- planning to kill his uncle Paul, because he knew his u n d e had not done anything wrong, b u t was a good man who loved Jesus. Now after the chief captain had sent P aul away and saved him from th e wicked men, the gov ernor put Paul in prison to keep him safely un til he had time to hear w hat Paul had to say for himself. Now even though Paul was in prison and knew th a t in a few days he was going to have a trial, yet he was not afraid. Of course Paul was not afraid for he had not done any thing wrong, and he was tru sting in Jesus to tak e care of him now ju st as he had tak en care of him when the wicked men tried to kill him, bu t God saved him through a boy who was not afraid but was brave and did his duty. In a few days some of these wicked people who wanted to kill Paul came to the place where he was, and the governor had Paul brought fo rth from the prison. These wicked men brought a lawyer w ith them .to speak fo r them, and when Paul was brought before them, he stood up and said Paul was a wicked man who made trouble among the Jew s all over the world, and he ought to be killed because he believed in Jesus. P aul heard all th e wicked things th a t had been said about him, bu t he was not afraid because he knew th a t he had only done the things th a t were right and pleasing to Jesus. Then th e governor asked Paul to speak for himself. We can ju st imagine how bravely Paul stood up, and told them how he was in th e temple to worship God, and did not stir up trou ble among the people. He told them how he believed every word in the Bible, and th a t he had never done anything th a t he felt was wrong to God or to man. Paul also told the governor the wicked men could not prove the things they had spoken against him. P aul was not afraid of his enemies because he knew he had done noth ing wrong.- I t is sin th a t makes people
THE K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S But the eccentricity of souls is beyond this. P au l was a wise soulwinner, whether he was before a ruler, or dealing w ith a prison keeper. Giolden T ext Illustration.—An Indian went to a white man and asked for some supplies. He received a handful. When he came to use it, he found among it, a shining silver piece of money. There was a struggle w ithin him, bu t righ t trium ph ed; and returning to th e w hite man, he gave him back the coin, saying as he did so, “ The bad man in my h eart told me to keep it, bu t the good man said,' ‘Take it b a c k .’ The bad man said, ‘I t ’s yours; keep it; nobody w ill ever know .’ The good man said, ‘It,’s not yours; return it. I t would be wicked to keep it; it would •be like stealing. God would know .’ I t is well to have a good conscience toward God and man. Why P aul W as N ot A fraid. Acts 24:10-16. Charles says of course he is not afraid of his teaeher, because she is kind to them and teaches t h e m BEG INNERS their lessons every AND PR IMARY . day. Now a short M abel L . M errill time ago I met a little boy who was so afraid of his teaeheT he did not w ant to go back to school, and th is teacher of whom he was so afraid was a lovely teaeher and the other boys and girls loved her. Can you guess w hat made this boy afraid of his teacher? Yes, Helen, you have guessed correctly, the little , boy was afraid because he had .done something wrong. He had stayed away from school when his parents thought he was a t school, and he knew he would not have any excuse from his parents for his absence from school. W rong doing always makes u s , afraid, b u t when we do th a t which is right, we are not afraid.
