kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I I P eter 1:11. T u e s d a y ; n o v . 29 . A cts 2 8 : 1 5 - 24 . P au l a t Borne. I t must have been a memorable hour for P au l when he entered the gates of Borne. I t was the fulfilment of his dreams and prayers for years. He came, however, not as a free man but as a prisoner. This was really an advantage for he was under the protection of th e Boman government and safe from Jew ish persecution. He was more free to preaeh the Gospel th an if he had gone as a missionary. Tie was allowed considerable liberty. He had th e freedom of th e praetorium and could w in here a lodging for himself outside. He was a prisoner indeed b u t w ithout th e sp irit of a captive. H is ehain was not th e work of a crim inal b u t a badge of honor for C h rist’s sake. H is chained hands were not idle. He wrote many letters. There flowed out from him continually rivers of living w ater in rich blessing for his fellow men. Sickness, poverty, adversity hav e' lim itations b u t all Christians who are not free to do w hat th eir hearts prompt them, should learn- a lesson of rad ian t and re joicing victory from Paul in prison a t Borne. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 30. Acts 28:25-31. The T ransition of th e Gospel from Jew to Gentile. This seems to mark the final and p er manent break w ith Israel and the cessation of Gospel overtures which began oh the day of Pentecost. P rio r to th is time it had been the Jew first and then the Gen tile. H enceforth it would be the Gentile first, and then th e Jew . A t th a t time the church of Christ was a small despised handful of people consisting for the most p a rt of artisans and slaves. Borne was in the zenith of her power. The glories of the great empire have perished. Only a few ruins tell the story of h e r ,greatness. That poor despised sect everywhere spoken against is now found everywhere on earth. The life of God is in the church and makes it immortal. Consider the ‘‘Golden House”, of Nero and the prison of Paul. Compare the oeeupants of each and their influence in the world. Which was the happier man, the emperor or the prisoner! “ I ’d ra th e r be th e least of them Who are the L o rd ’s alone, Than wear a royal diadem ' And sit upon a th ro n e.”
