HMRC TRANSFORMS DEALINGS WITH SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES
9 May 2012
HMRC have provided an update on the work they have been doing with the ‘One Click’ project to increasingly mover customer contact online.
An update on how HMRC is transforming the way we deal with Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s)
Having successfully implemented Lord Carters’ 2006 report recommendations HMRC is now working to support the Government’s Digital by Default agenda, by increasingly moving customer contact online.
The first project underway, referred to as ‘One Click’, has very clear aims:
Comprehensive data available through easy to use online channels; Reduced administrative burdens - for example a single business registration process which replaces the previous multiple registrations; and Simplified rules and processes.
What One Click has already delivered
Available through the www.businesslink.gov.uk website My New Business, aimed at start ups and growing businesses, was delivered successfully in November 2011. It’s already been widely used and the feedback received has been very positive.
A Business Tax Dashboard was delivered to customers in April 2012 and lets customers:
View liabilities and payments for CT, PAYE and SA in one place (we will soon be adding the facility to view VAT liabilities and payments); Update a range of contact details (e.g. telephone and address details) held by HMRC
Both the above allow the customer to self serve, thereby reducing the need for them to contact HMRC.
Work is ongoing to provide a dashboard for agents in 2013/14.
