As reporting PAYE in real time becomes business as usual from 6 April, it is no longer appropriate for HMRC to retain the dedicated e-mail box for pilot employer queries as a route for contact from employers. The dedicated phone line will also close at the same time. From 6 April, we want employers to follow our usual processes. This means that they should use our online guidance at www.hmrc.gov.uk/rti before they contact us. This is in line with our strategy and will provide appropriate contact routes.

If the employer is not able to resolve their query in this way, they should call:

• their software provider

• the Employer Helpline for PAYE process issues, or

• the Online Services Helpdesk for software and technical filing issues.

Contact details:

• Online Services Helpdesk: 0845 60 55 999

• Employer Helpline: 08457 143 143.

For those of us whose stomachs sink at the thought of calling a helpline and prefer our guidance to be in a written form, updated written guidance for the 2013/2014 tax year are now available at the HMRC website.

As reported previously all RTI guidance will be updated on HMRC website on 6 April as RTI becomes the norm.

“ Employers in Scotland can find all the information they need about the new system on HMRC’s website and small businesses can download free software to help them get ready. Whatever the size of your business, wherever you are based, whatever you do – if you employ people, it’s time to get ready . “ With the introduction of RTI, employers will benefit from much simpler requirements for reporting to HMRC and the abolition of the extensive annual tax return that the old system required.” “ We have been operating RTI since November last year. Our Management Accountant, Angela Plunkett, volunteered to take part in the pilot scheme and has found the transition very straightforward. The software we used was updated to be fully compatible with the new requirements .” For employees, particularly the 1 million people in the UK with multiple jobs, RTI will bring benefits as HMRC starts to get details of their tax every time their wages are paid, rather than just once a year. This will make HMRC’s records more accurate and up-to-date and will David MacMillan, First Truck & Van Ltd, said:
