Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provides small and medium employers with an alternative way of resolving tax disputes in compliance checks.
This is done by using an independent facilitator, to help with discussions between the customer and caseworker to resolve the dispute.

HMRC EXTENDS THE ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION SERVICE

Individuals and SMEs across the country can take advantage of a new way of resolving disputes with HMRC. The Alternative Dispute Resolution Service (ADR) trial, launched regionally in January 2012, has now been extended to all SMEs and individuals nationally. ADR provides customers with an alternative way of resolving tax disputes by using an independent facilitator, who mediates discussions between the customer and caseworker to resolve the dispute.

The Alternative Dispute Resolution trial will now also consider applications where an appealable decision has been made by HMRC and will continue to accept applications until at least 30 November 2012. HMRC is running an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) trial, which provides Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and Individual customers with an alternative way of resolving tax disputes in compliance checks.

ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION UPDATE

The results of the current stage of the Alternative Dispute Resolution trial are being evaluated during November 2012 but applications will continue to be accepted throughout the evaluation period and beyond. Background HMRC is running an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) trial, which provides Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and Individual customers with an alternative way of resolving tax disputes in compliance checks.
ADR involves an independent person from HMRC (called a 'facilitator'), who has not been involved in the dispute before. The facilitator will work with both the customer and the HMRC
