HMRC ONLINE SECURITY BRIEFING

HMRC have published a briefing on their approach to keeping their online systems and customers' information safe from attacks by cyber criminals.

In particular, they have increased capability in this area by recruiting and developing cyber specialists from within HMRC, other government departments, and the private sector to protect the Exchequer from this type of attempted fraud.

ADDITIONAL TASKFORCES LAUNCHED ON TAX EVADERS

Over £30m will be recovered from tax dodgers as HMRC launches new taskforces around the country.

The taskforces will target traders who do not pay the right amount of tax in:

 Scottish pubs and nightclubs  Hair and beauty businesses in Northern Ireland  The motor trade in South Wales, South West, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and the North East  Restaurants in South Wales and South West Taskforces are specialist teams that undertake intensive bursts of activity in specific high risk trade sectors and locations in the UK. The teams will visit traders to examine their records and carry out other investigations.

HMRC TO PROVIDE SINGLE PAGE VERSION OF P46

In response to requests from employers and their representatives, HMRC have now created a single page version of form P46. The new single sided P46 is called P46 (short) and can be found using the find a form tool on the HMRC website from 31 July. This form should not be sent to HMRC it is for internal employer use only.
