The fifth edition of the Telecommunications, Optics and Photonics Conference (TOP), taking place 24–25 February 2026 will convene UK and European leaders in photonics, telecoms, data centre innovation, and quantum communications to share the latest insights, research and technology breakthroughs.
D eveloped in conjunction with Optical Connections, the conference will provide a packed two-day programme of technical talks, networking opportunities, and exhibitions, offering a unique platform for industry professionals, academics, and technologists. It will focus on the development and application of optics and photonics in telecommunications and data centres, along with presentations on photonic components and free-space optics. SHARE YOUR EXPERTISE AT TOP CONFERENCE 2026 We are now inviting proposals for in- person presentations across the following topic areas including, Telecommunications (including WDM, ROADM, amplifiers, access), data centres and energy efficiency, photonic integration and components, free space optics and satellite systems, artificial intelligence and smart networks, and Quantum communications and cryptography. Confirmed speakers for TOP Conference 2026 include Ashkan Seyedi from NVIDIA, Elham Kashefi from NQCC, University of Edinburgh and CNRS, Dr. Ioannis Tomkos, Prof. Dimitra Simeonidou, and Xi Chen from Nokia Bell Lab. In 2025, TOP Conference welcomed speakers from Infinera, Nokia Bell Labs, Meta, OFCOM, Lumentum, and Omdia, along with a number of academic speakers from the universities of Cambridge, Southampton, Aston, UCL, Strathclyde, and the Tyndall Institute. The conference showcased cutting-edge research and innovation across optical communications, data centre interconnects, and quantum- secure networking. Presentations and panel discussions were delivered on AI/ML, ultra-wideband communication systems, spatial division multiplexing systems, and scalable global network infrastructure. Advances in data centres – from AI cluster interconnects to co-packaged optics for high-efficiency cloud computing – were also explored. Parallel sessions delved into emerging technologies such as plasmonics for radio access networks, Space Optics, and satellite- based quantum communications. The event also highlighted breakthroughs in photonic components, probabilistic constellation shaping, and CMOS- compatible process for modulators. Quantum-secure optical links using SPADs and continuous-variable QKD rounded out the programme.
