And always there is the film evan gelist, with a reel in his hand and a burning passion for souls in his heart. Accompanying the print, he is responsible for the invitation and the offering, so necessary for the pres ervation of the ministry. From ex perience in previous meetings, he has learned how to follow the challenge of the film with the invitation of the Saviour. His job is not to preach a sermon; that has already been done. He must be careful to mold his every sentence in prayer; his obligation is to let the Spirit of God do the com pelling . . . the drawing . . . and, finally, the transforming. Motion pictures have thus taken their place as an integral and im portant part of evangelism. The medi um has proved itself. No longer doubt ed and mistrusted by the church, it has been utilized in part or in whole by most of our major denominations. Film rental libraries are to be found in every population center in Ameri ca; churches are including projection booths as well as nurseries in the blueprints for new edifices. There has been a tremendous upswing in the sale of projectors to religious organi zations. The audio-visual men have been quick to expand with the grow ing market, and consequently there are few sections of our continent where films have not already become an “ assistant pastor.” In the case of the Billy Graham film ministry, it is now possible for Billy to preach to 28 audiences every night, even though he may be per sonally involved in a large campaign somewhere else in the world. The impact made by cooperative efforts is long remembered. In one Minnesota showing, over twice the total p o p u la tio n of the village swamped the local bandshell for a showing under the stars. Scores of auditoriums across the nation have seen their greatest audiences for a Billy Graham film. This fact is made more impressive when one realizes that these same auditoriums house s ta te -w id e athletic events, show troupes and some of the greatest names in the theatrical world! Crowds, themselves, however, are not the criterion of success or failure. Although God alone can keep an ac curate record, we have outward evi dence, at least, that well over a third of a million decisions have been made for Christ through the ministries of “Mr. Texas,” “ Oiltown, USA,” “ Lon don Crusade,” “ Souls In Conflict,” and the “Hour of Decision” Evangelistic Films.
