Give us the understanding of Truth | and Love. And loving we shall learn God, and j Truth will destroy all error. And lead us into the Life that is Soul, and deliver us from the errors of sense, sin, sickness and death, For God is life, Truth and Love for ever” (1881 Version). Yes, Christian Science has substi tuted for the Word of God “ the pro fane and vain babblings” of a worn- | an, and when Mrs. Eddy says in her j autobiography, “ No one else can drain i the cup which I have drunk to the dregs as the Discoverer and teacher of Christian Science” (p. 30, Retro spection and Introspection ), we can only conclude that that cup was the very “ cup of devils” referred to in I First Corinthians since hers is the “ doctrine of devils” in that it is a complete denial of the cardinal truths of the Word of God (1 Cor. 10:21). Christian Science and God It is only a step from the denial of the Word of God to a denial of the God of the Word. The God of Christian Science is not the God of the Bible. Mrs. Eddy tells us: “ The Jewish tribal Jehovah was a man-projected God [that is, one that man thought up] liable to wrath, repentance and human changeableness. The Chris tian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not, and causeth no evil, disease nor death” (S & H, p. 140, line 23). In other words, she is plainly stat ing that the God of Christian Science is not the Jehovah of the Old Testa ment. Well, my friends, the Lord Jesus Christ came into the world to reveal that very Jehovah of the Old Testament, and if He is rejected, so is Jesus Christ, the Son. And she is right that the Christian Science god has no resemblance whatever to the God of the Old and New Testament. H ere is another very illumi nating definition of the Christian Science god: “ The Principle of divine meta physics is God” (S & H, p. I l l , lines n , 12). You know what a principle is—a basic law. If you understand the principle of mathematics, you can work mathematical problems. So Mrs. Eddy states that if you comprehend the principle of divine metaphysics, you can work out God. There is nothing living or personal in a prin ciple. In fact, she states that very thing: “ God . . . impersonal being” (S & H, p. 605, 74th Ed.). But the Holy Spirit states in Hebrews 1:3 that the Son is the “ express image of his [God’s] CONTINUED ►

A 4 . O N JEWS and JUDAISM BY REV. M. ZEIDMAN ( C opyrighted ) A J E W BEGINS THE D A Y !

Q— How does a Jew begin the day? , A — Upon awakening, and while still in bed, a Hebrew recites,— "I give thanks before the King living and ever existing, that Thou hast restored my soul in pity. Great is Thy faithfulness.” Q— What does a Hebrew do upon arising? A — As he gets out of bed, he immediately washes his hands and recites the prayer over "the Washing of hands.” (A pitcher of water and raisins are at the foot of the bed.) This ablution is performed because the pious believe that during the night the evil spirits rest upon the nails and finger-tips of men. Q— What duty is performed next? A— The Hebrew examines the fringes or "Talith Katon which he wears, and recites,— "Blessed art Thou, God, King of the Universe, who hast sanctified us with Thy commandments and commanded us concerning the fringes. Q— What is the "Talith Katon” or fringes like? A — It is a garment in appearance like an old-fashioned apron which goes over the head, with fringes in the four corners. Q— What is the purpose of wearing the fringes ? A — It is to serve as a reminder to the Jew to "Observe all the Commandments. Q— Do all Jews wear the fringes ? A — A very small minority of pious ones, who are anxious to observe the law, wear them. Those, however, who wish to forget the law, conveniently disregard this traditional observance of wearing the fringes. Q— What are the religious duties of a Jew? A — To praise God daily with one hundred benedictions and perform the 613 precepts. Q— What are the duties of women ? A — They are very few in comparison to men. There are three precepts:— the light ing of candles. Purification, and offering of a piece of dough on Friday, are the specific religious duties of women. Recently a Jewish woman came into the Scott Mission and confessed Jesus as her personal Saviour. As we stood in the office and prayed, wells of tears were let loose—tears of joy, that she had found in Jeshua of Nazareth her Saviour and Redeemer. She then cried out, "I can no longer live the double life, I can no longer suppress my faith. I must confess Jesus openly to my people.” Then she continued, ”1 can find no spiritual satisfaction in Judaism. As a woman, all I am expected to do is to keep my home Kosher and see that all the food is prepared and cooked in accordance with tradition and custom, \7hen I read the Bible, or express a desire for spiritual things, they laugh at me. They think it is crazy for a woman to study the Word of God, or to express any opinion on it.” i This, friends, sums up the spiritual state in a Jewish home. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.” (Romans 10:3,4) The Jewish people need the Gospel now. Now their hearts are yearning and open for the Gospel. , •
