He had never been man, and just as much man as if He had never been God. We must not overlook either His deity or His humanity. He could not have been our Saviour if He had been God only, be cause He had to take the sinner’s place with a truly human nature; He could not have been our Saviour if He had been man only because His sacrifice had to be of infinite and eternal quality. Here, then, is a marvelous person of two dis tinct natures—both God and man, our Saviour, our Lord and our elder Brother. STUDY QUESTIONS 1. What does it mean for Christ to be your Lord? (Rom. 14:4.) 2. Do you think it is possible to know Christ as Saviour and not as Lord? Study Rom. 12:1,2; Gal. 2:20 in this connection. 3. This is a sobering thought for every believer, that while we joyfully cele brate the birthday of our Lord Jesus amidst expressions of goodwill toward dear ones, friends and neighbors, millions will spend this Christmas amidst grief and distress, hunger and utter despair, unless we come to their aid the name of our Lord.
