The Old Alleynian cricket club continues to participate annually in the traditional Cricketer Cup competition. This year we were able to gather a powerful and young team of OA s together that bodes well for the future. A disappointing first round exit however means there is more work to be done to improve our track record in the competition. This year we aim to have matches against the school, the Alleyn Club and the main competition. Anybody wishing to participate please email kumarv @ ttint.com

The boat club has seen steady growth in the last year, encompassing more members direct from the College as well as those who have turned to the sport at a later stage in life. Promotion of the sport of rowing within the College, along with providing a base for alumni with any interest in the sport, a means of keeping in contact and socialising, remain the driving forces behind the the club’s existence. The club’s success can be charted by the high turnouts at all events, particularly from recent leavers, including the OABC annual dinner and Alleyn Club Dinner. OABC is continually aiming at investing in ourselves as a club and DCBC, the source of most of its membership. We are still in the process of donating a selection of photos of past College crews who have achieved success at a high level and so would encourage anyone who has any photos with this criteria (digital or printed) to send them through to oldalleynianbc @ gmail.com. An anecdote or story to accompany any pictures would be most welcome. The club have commissioned club bow ties with the OABC emblem, which can also be obtained on request for £20, ideal for social events. Annual Dinner A fantastic time was had by all on Saturday 23rd January at the Old Alleynian Boat Club annual dinner held at the East India Club in St James’s Square. 40 guests sat for dinner with the club welcoming Peter Lyon (52-69), President of the Alleyn Club, oarsmen from the College’s Sixth Form and their coaches. A three course dinner was enjoyed by all accompanied by a thoughtful selection of wine and port. Speeches followed from the OABC chairman Tom Saunders (01-06) drawing attention to the mutually beneficial relationship the club has with the College. The Old Alleynian Boat Club prides itself for providing a template for other alumni clubs associated with the College to follow by means of inclusivity and rate of growth. As is customary, the evening was of course rounded off by a classic rendition of Pueri Alleynienses before the exodus was made to the American Bar and later the West End. I would like to thank all who made the dinner another great OABC event and encourage anyone with any interest in the fine sport of rowing to come forward and attend one of our events. No experience necessary, just interest! In recent years, OABC has had up to two tables at the Alleyn Club Dinner, so for anyone interested in the event that enjoys the sport but is unsure as to whether they will know anyone, do come and join us! The 63rd Alumni Race held by Thames Hare and Hounds was held on Wimbledon Common on December 12th. The winter rains left standing water on the playing fields, so the start and finish were moved 30 metres up the course to avoid starting and finishing in a puddle, but fears of this watery state of affairs continuing all the way around the course turned out to be unfounded. The field was the largest ever seen for the race – when I first started running it in the late 70’s it was a race of 70 or so finishers. 217 finished this year’s race, representing some 28 schools. Dulwich provided three of those finishers with Jerry Watson (71-78) 22nd, Daniel Wade (92-99) 110th and David Gibson (89-94) 157th. Though problems with the stopwatches meant that no official times were taken. Dulwich came 19th of those 28 teams. To anyone out there wondering about the format, we are not a club in the true ‘Athletics Club’ sense of the word, more a group of runners who meet once a year in a race set up for Alumni teams on Wimbledon Common. Consequently pretty much all standards are catered for, so if you feel you can run a 5-mile cross- country and don an Old Alleynian singlet, then please get in contact. Expected date for 2016 is Saturday, December 10th at 2.30pm.
