Students are able to utilize Laerdal manikins, props made to represent human dimensions and basic characteristics, in the course of their PTA instruction. These manikins range in use from patient simulation and care to multiple discipline skills training lessons such as proper body mechanics and kinesiology. Before providing hands-on patient care, which is also part of the program, students are afforded the opportunity to demonstrate skill mastery using these manikins.

Clinical Affiliation Agreements Students will only be assigned to clinical agencies that have a current clinical affiliation agreement on file. These agreements will be reviewed on an average of every two years by the ACCE and/or the department secretary to ensure the agreement is not expired. The agreement must contain the signature of the appropriate personnel from Wabash Valley College and the Clinical Agency. Clinical Site Visitation by the ACCE Each student will receive a minimum of one on-site clinical visit by the ACCE while in the PTA Program. Additional visits may be scheduled if deemed necessary by the ACCE. The ACCE will schedule clinical site visits in coordination with the CI and /or SCCE. Attendance Students are expected to attend all scheduled days of each affiliation regardless of the number of hours accrued. Scheduled 10-hour days or weekend days may occur due to Cl schedules. The student is required to work the schedule of their clinical instructor. When the student is informed of this schedule, the student is to receive consent of the ACCE. College holidays will be observed, and make-up will not be expected for these days only. Any time missed due to absence must be made up. Points are deducted for ALL missed days. GPA Responsibilities Students must achieve a minimum grade of“C”in classroom theory as well as a satisfactory grade for professional behaviors and the laboratory components of each PTA course as determined by the criteria of each PTA course. Any grade of less than“C”achieved in a PTA or concurrent general education course is unacceptable for progression in the PTA Program. PTA students who leave the college or program by reason of academic deficiency or dismissal may petition for readmission to the program no sooner than one semester following official notification of status. * Any student who receives an unsafe or unsatisfactory laboratory competency evaluation or is dismissed from the college or program, whether culminating in failure or withdrawal, must petition for readmission.

The WVC Anatomy & Physiology department recently purchased a $75,000 Anatomage Table which is considered cutting edge by any health education standard. The Anatomage Table allows Physcial Therapist Assistant students to interact with the human body internally and in greater detail. Though the WVC Anatomy and Physiology department also has a cadaver lab, the Anatomage Table allows students to study internal organs and tissues on a more intricate level.
