gambling inferno to run twenty-four hours a day the year around. On the entrance, a huge sign will give notice to all that this place is “Hell.” Along the roads leading to this center there will be billboards depicting the devil with his pitchfork as a pointing ar row. Signs w ill announce to passers- by, “This is the Road to Hell,” “ You are on the Road to Hell,” etc. A ll of this is supposed to be exceedingly smart. At least this is calling the pleasure-mad life by its1real name, and some may be thereby diverted from participation in its sin. + Turkish archaeologists working in southern Antolia recently uncovered the ruins of a Hittite city of the 8th century, B. C. On the statues and col umns were found numerous Aramaic writings. This is the first time that Aramaic writing has been found in Antolia. It w ill be remembered that for many years there have been lead ers in the anti-Biblical groups who affirmed that the Hittites as a people never really existed, and that the fifty-five references to them in the Bible were fictitious! + One of the newest ventures of the various mission boards is the use of aircraft for transportation of per sonnel. In this connection, there is an auxiliary organization, known as the Christian Airmen’s Missionary Fellowship, composed largely of for mer air pilots who have caught the vision of speeding the story of the Gospel to inaccessible fields. This organization offers assistance to any evangelical mission board. A particular illustration of the value of flying for missionaries is that of reaching a certain station in less than two hours by air which or dinarily took two weeks! A rather extreme example is that no less than six weeks’ difficult traveling could be reduced to a matter of hours.

a conclusive answer to those who have asked if the missionary enter prise made any progress during the war. + The Foreign Missions Fellowship speaks with authority regarding mis sionary forces, orthodox or otherwise, around the world. It seems while there are 1945 ministers of the Gospel for one m i l l i o n persons in the United States of America, in Africa there are but 56; in Central America only 30; in India, 14; and in Indo-China only 2. This ought to silence those who in sist that the spiritual need in our country is as great as that in foreign lands. + The Associated Press states that a newly discovered temple in Egypt contains seven inscribed stone boards, one of which records a famine of seven years’ duration caused by lack of the Nile’s usual inundation. This is a direct corroboration of the Genesis ac count of the famine during the ruler- ship of Joseph. + Recent statistics indicate that there are 437,000 saloons in the United States at the present time, or one for every 267 p e r s o n s . For every five churches, there are eleven saloons and for every seventy-one homes, one bar room. The amount per capita ex pended on liquor is $46.15 as com pared with the cost of e d u c a t i o n , which is $15.53. Surely it does not take any special wisdom to see the close connection between the liquor traffic and all of the alarming evils of our land. + A good move on the part of Satan seems to be the plan to build “Hell Incorporated” in Las Vegas, Nevada. Property has been purchased on which to erect an amusement and

^ We read that for every bottle of beer sold in Florida the state treasury receives three cents. This should amount to a considerable sum in the course of a year, and must go far toward paying the expenses of state government. But for every bottle of beer sold, some soul is debauched, some young person is morally dam aged, hearts are broken and homes are destroyed; in addition, that very same state of Florida must enlarge its police force, its jails, its insane asylums, its houses of correction, its hospitals and its cemeteries. What wickedness and folly to countenance the liquor propaganda which ad vertises how much this satanic traffic pays in taxes and does not point out its awful cost to our civilization! + ^ There is an air of revival among the P r o t e s t a n t s of the Catholic province of Quebec, Canada. Meetings are being held, Scriptural displays sent forth, and Bibles distributed by colporteur evangelists. One French family r e c e i v e d some evangelical literature which was immediately de nounced by the priest, whereupon the head of this family challenged the priest to prove his teachings from the Scriptures. Unable, of course, to do this, the priest left in anger. A few days later, no less than seven per sons confessed Christ as Saviour. Prayer is asked for those who battle against entrenched Catholic super stition and darkness in this large province. + Reports reaching us indicate that during the difficult years of the war, the Sudan Interior Mission, one of our largest faith missions, sent to the. field or returned home on furlough almost 800 missionaries. This in it self is a great accomplishment, but the record further states that not one of these missionaries was lost en route. The ones who went down with the ill- fated Zam Zara '»'ere rescued.
