vision he had, which forever silenced any consideration other than that Jesus of Nazareth was the promised Messiah, of whom he could say, “He was seen of me.” Thoroughly con vinced of this tremendous truth, he became as diligent in proclaiming it as he had formerly been in denounc ing it. His hatred of the name of Jesus was turned to wholehearted worship and adoration. His blameless life and sincere ef forts to obey the dictates of his con science were all incorporated in the new experience and conviction that whatever he had from God came to him as a matter of undeserved grace. “I am what I am by the grace of God” is the truth applicable to each one who knows Christ as Saviour and Lord. that he loved God greatly. He was one of the most strict young men about obeying all of the laws of the Jewish religion. Probably o n e of the Old Testament verses that Saul learned was your memory verse for today: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart’’ (Deut. 6:5). Saul thought that he did love God with all his heart, but he did not believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was the Son of God. Saul hated all Christians, those who had believed upon the Saviour. He punished them and even had some of them put to death. Saul truly believed that he was doing the right thing; but that did not make him right, did it? In our lesson next Sunday, we shall learn from God’s Word how Saul had a new beginning in his life. LESSON FOR OCTOBER 13 Paul's Conversion to Christ LESSON M ATER IAL: Acts 26:9-18: I Cor. 15GOLDEN TEX T: "This Is a faithful say ing, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (I Tim 1:15). Outline and Exposition I. Eager to defend the Jews’ religion against what seemed a serious men ace, Saul engaged in earnest efforts to stamp out the followers of Jesus. To him Jesus represented an enemy of true righteousness, who threaterfed to injure, if not ruin, the religion of the Jews, and his conscience urged him on to deeds of violence against all who honored His name. On a mission against these followers of Jesus, SaUl was granted a vision which revealed that the crucified Jesus was none other than the premised Jewish Messiah, Who had risen from the dead and ascended into Heaven. Thus Paul’s conversion resulted, not from the preaching of the Gospel, but from a vision from Heaven that con vinced him that Jesus of Nazareth was the promised Christ of his own religion (I Cor. 15:8; I Tim. 1:15). II. The commission of Saul (now Paul) was to a service entailing persecution; he needed deliverance from both Jew and Gentile. His commission included a revela tion of the condition of all men: blind, needing sight; in darkness, needing light; and in bondage, needing deliv erance from Satan. By the Gospel, Paul was to bring them sight, and light, and freedom, that they might thereby receive forgiveness of sins and an in heritance in Heaven. III. His C o n v ic t io n (I C or . 15:8-10) Paul’s conviction grew out of the H is C o n v e r s io n ( A c ts 26:9-15) H is C o m m is s io n ( A c ts 26:16-18)
