Choice II: Initiate a one-time complete re-lottery of all elementary-aged students As part of the district’s implementation of the new elementary school model—featuring lower and upper schools at each of the twin buildings, with Blanchard Elementary continuing as a K–6 school—the district could consider a one-time, initial complete re-enrollment process for all current Kindergarten through 5th grade students. This approach, as part of the AB Forward reorganization plan, is one way to manage student placement while promoting a process that may be viewed as equitable, transparent, and does not unduly burden any single school community. By conducting a full re-enrollment, the district can consider programmatic needs, residency priorities, and family preferences while supporting the creation of balanced and sustainable school communities under the new model.
