The beautiful game(s) Determination

FOOTBALL On Wednesday 26th June 2019 Abbey Junior competed in their first ever Girls Football League match. The girls had taken part in trials to express their interest in playing for the football team earlier in the year. Some of the girls have since regularly attended Girls’ Football After School Club. The girls travelled to St. Phillip’s, wearing a brand new kit and thoroughly enjoyed representing the school. The result did not go their way on this occasion but it has not left the team deterred. They are very much looking forward to getting back on the pitch as soon as possible. The boys also played against St Philips. They played some excellent football and dominated the game coming away with a nice 3-0 victory! RUGBY On Friday 28th June 2019, Abbey Junior Tag Rugby team travelled to Wolverhampton University's Walsall Campus to participate in the annual Black Country School Games Finals. Having won the local tournament, the team now represented Sandwell against teams from Walsall, Dudley and Wolverhampton. The standard of rugby was very good throughout the day and Abbey had to compete with very tough opposition. The team got off to a winning start and continued to work well as a team in all seven games. Overall the team were named as fourth runners-up. A massive achievement for the team who all enjoyed a fantastic day of rugby in glorious weather!
