THE

Artsmark x 2! Gold greatness

DOUBLE AWARD Your Statement of Commitment and Case Study have been reviewed by our assessment panel and we are delighted to inform you that Abbey Infant School and Abbey Junior School has been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award. Congratulations! The panel noted the positive impact your Artsmark journey (focusing on developing the visual arts) has had on your school. There are many strengths such as the use of bespoke visual arts training for all your staff; the use of specialists to work with pupils and staff; the creation of videos by specialists and staff to be used within lessons as a resource and building the progression of skills into your curriculum design. To develop further, you might wish to consider applying your model of improving the visual arts to other art forms such as photography and giving your pupils the opportunity to create and evaluate artworks in a range of media. Abbey Junior School has taken an organised approach to Artsmark, planning for curriculum opportunities to teach thematically through the arts. There has been a commitment to up- skilling teachers and a willingness to give over decision making of some elements to children. Going forward, it would be good to see your frameworks and processes have time to consolidate and really cement a place within the ethos of the school. Further reflection on ways in which the arts influence pedagogy more generally, and the way your partnerships with artists facilitate this, would be of interest.
