When you look into a dog’s eyes, there’s something special in the way they look at you. You can see trust, love, intelligence, and even the fragility of life reflected in their face. It’s clear that dogs love us unconditionally, and there’s a unique family connection between owner and pet. At Salazar Scoops, one of our favorite parts of the job is getting to experience that bond over and over again. People often call this time of year the “dog days of summer,” and we can’t think of a better time to celebrate everything we love about our furry friends. From their goofy personalities that can lift our spirits to the quiet comfort they offer, dogs have a way of bringing meaning to our everyday lives. We see it in your dogs when we come to scoop your yards, and at home in our pets. Like many humans, our dog Dax has a big personality and many quirks. He also suffers from anxiety. However, he’s one of the most loyal, silly, and loving companions we could ever ask for. Growing up, my family was poor, and I didn’t get to have any pets until college, when my ex had a cat. I had never owned a dog until I began dating Ashley. Ashley has always been a dog person. She remembers her first dog, a boxer named Ted, from when she was 9. She always wanted another dog, but in her previous relationship, it just wasn’t possible. One of the first things she did after that breakup was go to an adoption event. She chose a random store aisle, and there he was in his crate. Though she looked at all the other pups, she felt pulled back to Dax and took him home that day. Dogs Don’t Ask for Much, But Give Us Everything Unleashing Love
Ashley, Dax lived with a family who could no longer care for him. He didn’t know their reasons; he just knew they dropped him off at the shelter one day and never returned. Every nervous moment, we remember where his struggles come from, and he is a constant teacher of patience and responsibility.
Dax has helped me realize that animals have their own personalities and challenges. Honestly, the more I understand him, the more I fall in love with him. He even played a part in our backstory at Salazar Scoops. I used to have poor eyesight, and one day, Dax accidentally scratched my eyeball. Though it didn’t cause severe damage, it led me to get corrective eye surgery. During my recovery, Ashley started scooping. There’s nothing quite like coming home to the burst of energy and excitement dogs have just to see you walk through the door. When we interact with our clients’ pets, we see their goofy sides or their loyalty to their families, and every time we scoop, we’re building a relationship with them. It is a highlight for our whole team when we get to stop for belly rub breaks. One of the most difficult things we’ve ever seen is a dog denied proper care and support. We’ve known scoopers who entered a yard to find a malnourished pup with no water in his dish, eating waste because he was so hungry. It means a lot to us that we’ve provided a little love and tenderness to some of those dogs who, for whatever reason, weren’t getting the care they needed. Dogs don’t ask us for much, other than love, safety, and a little time for belly rubs, cuddles, and a game of fetch. But, they give us so much back. Whether it’s our Dax or your beloved furry family member, we’re grateful for the beautiful connection and love dogs share with us.
Dax brought a special kind of purpose for Ashley; he’s her baby boy, who needed a lot of care for his separation anxiety. Before

Summer brings sunshine, fresh air, and more time outside for you and your dog, but it can also bring stubborn smells to your outdoor spaces. Whether they’re clinging to patios, gravel, or concrete walkways, pet waste odors tend to linger, and the heat only makes them stronger. Even after thoroughly scooping, bacteria and smells can stick and take away your outdoor space’s relaxing vibe. Taking care of pet waste odors doesn’t just make your yard more enjoyable; it also helps keep your family and dog safe. Lingering bacteria from waste can be harmful to people and animals, and in the hot weather, those bacteria multiply faster, contaminating areas where your dog plays or children run barefoot. Pet waste attracts pests like flies, mosquitoes, and other wildlife, and the stronger the odor, the more likely they are to turn your space into a hangout. Our Premium Odor Control Spray, Wysiwash, is a powerful, eco-friendly solution that doesn’t just mask bad smells; it neutralizes them at the source. Safe for pets, plants, and your family, this add-on service can ensure your yard is ready for anything, from fetch to family cookouts. Our spray is effective on all surfaces, so whether your outdoor space is grass, tile, cement, painted wood, turf, or gravel, it gets a deep clean that leaves your yard smelling fresh. Whether you want year-round odor protection or a quick yard refresh before guests arrive for a summer barbecue, we have flexible spray options to fit your needs and budget. • Weekly Sprays — $67 per month: Keep your yard consistently fresh with unlimited applications all month long. • Twice a Month — $47 per month: Perfect for regular maintenance with bi-monthly treatments so your yard is always guest, kid, and pet-ready. • One-Time Spray — $27: This is great for events, gatherings, or whenever you want to give your yard a quick makeover. Let’s help you keep your yard clean, safe, and ready for lots of fun in the sunshine this summer. Your Staycation, Your Rules
Easily Enjoy a Perfect Home Holiday
Sometimes, the best escape is right under your nose. Planning a staycation in your local area can save you the hassle of long travel days and large expenses but also reveals hidden gems in your own backyard. Here are six ways you can turn your town into a fun staycation! SET YOUR INTENTIONS. Start by deciding what kind of staycation vibes you’re aiming for. Is it relaxation with spa-like peace and quiet, or are you looking for adventure and exploration? Setting your intentions will help guide your activities and tailor your staycation to your desires. TREAT YOURSELF. Part of the joy of vacationing comes from stepping out of your routine and indulging a bit. Why should a staycation be any different? Book a massage at a local spa, order takeout from that high-end restaurant you’ve always wanted to try or splurge on a fancy “hotel-style” breakfast in bed. Remember, it’s all about treating yourself! VISIT A NEW PLACE EACH DAY. Challenge yourself to visit new spots in your area. It could be a park you’ve never strolled through, a museum you’ve skipped, or an interesting shop you’ve passed but never entered. It’s fun to see how much you discover in places you can visit every day. DON’T JUDGE YOURSELF FOR NOT DOING ANYTHING. If your most adventurous activity for a day is moving from your bed to your couch or hammock, that’s perfectly fine. Not every staycation day needs to be filled with activities. After all, the best memories can come from hanging out and enjoying the peace of your own space. BE A TOURIST FOR THE DAY. Grab a camera and see your city through the eyes of a tourist. You might discover typical tourist activities you’ve never done because you live there. It’s a fun way to engage with your surroundings differently. REMEMBER, IT’S YOUR STAYCATION. The best part of a staycation is that there are no rules. Sleep in, stay up late, eat dessert for breakfast, or wear pajamas all day. Do what makes you happy because, after all, isn’t that what any great vacation is about?

The Scoop on Our Partners Meet the Mosquito-Fighting Team Making Summer Safer for Kids and Pets
When summer hits, you should enjoy the sunshine with your family and pets, but the sting of bugs can have you running back inside. Mosquito Shield is here to help your family (and your scoopers) stay safe from bugs and reclaim your outdoor space. As fellow dog lovers and yard care pros, their mission aligns perfectly with ours, and we are proud to partner with them to bring you a special discount for being part of our community. Locally owned and operated by Jennifer and Dustin Schouten, Mosquito Shield of North Salt Lake City was born to help families enjoy their yards again. “We don’t want you to have to run inside,” Jennifer said. “We want you to be able to stay outside and enjoy your pools, saunas, firepits, or just sitting on the back porch watching the kids play without getting eaten alive.”
they treat properties every two weeks, more frequently than other companies, targeting areas where mosquitoes hide during the day and you like to spend time. They use scents like peppermint, citronella, and rosemary to create an invisible shield around your yard that repels mosquitoes and grows stronger with each application. (Fun fact: It’s just the female mosquitoes that bite while searching for the protein in our blood they need to lay eggs.) For Jennifer and Dustin, this business is personal. Their autistic son couldn’t tolerate sprays or strong-smelling repellents, so he often had to stay indoors, missing out on playtime with their dog. Since they started using Mosquito Shield at home, he no longer has to deal with those big, itchy, red, hot bites. After just one treatment, people usually see an 80% reduction in bites; after two, that jumps to 95%.
Mosquito Shield helps keep your family and pets healthy, and the spray is quick-drying, allowing your dogs and children to use the yard as quickly as 15 minutes after treatment. Ready to take back your yard? Salazar Scoops and Mosquito Shield work together to protect and beautify your space. Company Enlists Goats to Reduce Risk of Wildfires

$350 million satellite-manufacturing facility. The terrain is too steep and hazardous for machine clearing or human crews, but it posed little challenge to the goats. Their mission: to eliminate fuel for future fires and clear paths for firefighters, if needed. The goats could mow down an acre of land dense with plants and underbrush in a day, eliminating invasive vegetation and reducing the terrain to a nearly level, trimmed surface. The goats’ work also prevents overgrowth near powerlines, where fires often start. Lockheed embraced this unusual fire- protection strategy after last year’s 580- acre Quarry Fire came within a mile of the company’s Waterton aerospace facility near Littleton. Five firefighters were injured battling the blaze, which forced the evacuation of 600 homes and put thousands of Colorado residents on edge.
farms, ranches, and private land owners across 15 states to provide low-tech clearing services. The company’s workforce consists of 1,500 Cashmere goats native to the Himalayas and comfortable in cold, dry temperatures. Unlike most domestic goats destined for the slaughterhouse early in life, Goat Green’s employees work for about 12 years for as many as 265 days a year. Kids are born on the worksites and learn to eat a wide range of weeds and forage as adolescents. These goats even have a retirement plan: After losing their teeth, they live out their final days in peace on a ranch. After a dozen wildfires in the last 10 years in the Littleton area, residents are bracing for another wildfire season. The area is a little bit safer this year, however, thanks to the goats. As one regional fire-protection official said on Facebook, “These goats are a wonderful partner to us.”
When a Colorado wildfire threatened one of Lockheed Martin’s plants last summer, the big defense contractor decided they needed better fire protection measures. So, the company called in an unlikely emergency workforce — a battalion of 1,200 grazing goats. Lockheed contracted Goat Green, a local Colorado company, to put its herd of hungry Cashmere goats to work clearing 98 acres of wilderness terrain near the company’s worksite, which includes a Goats on the Job in Colorado Hooved Helpers Ward Off Wildfires
