Culture is woven into everyday life in Telford and Wrekin. From arts and heritage to community events, music, dance, theatre and local creativity, it brings people together, showcases local talent and helps create pride in the place we call home. To build on these strengths, Telford & Wrekin Council is developing a Cultural Strategy that will help shape the future of culture across the Borough. Being created in partnership with residents, community groups, businesses, artists, cultural organisations and education providers, the strategy will support participation in cultural activities by all. It will celebrate our heritage and diversity, develop opportunities for local artists and creatives to showcase their talents, support our Borough towns and encourage creativity and future opportunities. A vibrant cultural scene can also play a significant part in attracting investment – creating a draw for visitors and establishing a reputation and excitement about a Town.

Young people have been encouraged to explore what culture means to them, the opportunities they would like to see in the future and how culture can help make Telford and Wrekin an even better place to live. The insight gathered through these sessions alongside that from wider community conversations is helping to shape the Cultural Strategy to develop. Feedback received during the Youth Vision Session held in May 2026: “I think what makes Telford cool is the different cultures that are here. If I compare it to other places that I’ve been to, I think whenever I go out I see other people who look like me, speak like me and I think that can really inspire me to go where they are.” Building on local success From community events, Theatre on Tour, the new Amphitheatre to plans for a new theatre in Oakengates, cultural activity continues to grow across the Borough. The Cultural Strategy will help bring these opportunities together and support the future development of Telford and Wrekin’s cultural offer ensuring this bring benefits and excitement to residents, visitors and the creative businesses that underpin it. Looking ahead The Cultural Strategy will help build on the success of Telford Day while informing plans for Telford’s 60th anniversary in 2028. The milestone will be an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, recognise the communities that have shaped our success and look ahead to the future of the Borough.

Young voices shaping the future As part of the development process, young people have been invited to share their ideas, experiences and ambitions through Youth Vision consultation sessions. This recognises the importance of younger generations shaping the Borough’s future cultural ambitions.
