Welcome There’s so much to be proud of in this edition of Totally Telford, and it all comes back to the same thing: people. Whether its residents supporting one another, volunteers giving up their time, or businesses investing in our high streets, it’s that community spirit that continues to shape a better Borough for everyone, whatever stage of life they’re at. Cost of living remains front and centre of our work. Through our Telford Works with You offer, residents can find practical support spanning finances, employment, health and wellbeing all in one place. Job Box is connecting people directly with local employers, our new Crisis and Resilience Fund is providing a safety net for households facing financial hardship, and every resident continues to benefit from the lowest Council Tax in the Midlands, free garden waste collection, free district centre parking and our £2 bus fare commitment, delivering over one million affordable journeys across the Borough. This edition is full of inspiring stories too. We’re proud to be marking 40 years since the Ironbridge Gorge was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in November, with this year’s Telford Day hosted in the Gorge itself to launch a programme of celebration for this remarkable part of our shared history. Investment continues right across the Borough. From the reopening of Telford Town Park Amphitheatre and new plans for Telford Theatre, to the ongoing transformation of Wellington Market, we’re creating spaces where people can work, shop, socialise and enjoy culture on their doorstep. Our £91 million highways investment programme is also
improving roads, drains and crossings behind the scenes, making everyday journeys safer for everyone.
We’re also celebrating the difference our communities make, from the more than 2,000 volunteers now part of our Street Champions scheme, to fresh beginnings for residents moving into our Nuplace homes, and the artists of Open Horizons who have left their mark on the Shropshire Hills. We’re proud too of the Christopher Turley Armed Forces Hub becoming the first VALOUR-recognised centre for veterans in the West Midlands. None of this happens without working together, and I’d encourage everyone to get involved, whether that’s through our Youth Offer, My Options, Shared Lives, or simply having a Healthy Conversation about winter wellbeing with someone you trust. I hope you enjoy this edition of Totally Telford and feel as proud as I do of the people who make our Borough such a special place to live, work and belong.
