RECORD 10

recognise Telford’s outstanding green spaces. Green Flags

Whether it’s a walk through the woods, a place for children to play, or simply somewhere to enjoy nature and relax, green spaces play an important role in life across Telford and Wrekin. This year, the Borough reached a major milestone after two more sites achieved prestigious Green Flag status, bringing the total number of Green Flag Award sites managed by Telford & Wrekin Council to a record ten. The latest additions, Ketley Paddock Mound Local Nature Reserve and The Beeches & Lodge Fields Local Nature Reserves, were recognised for their high environmental standards, excellent management and value to the community. The achievement highlights the importance of protecting and enhancing green spaces for both people and wildlife. From award-winning parks to Local Nature Reserves, residents have access to a wide range of natural spaces across the Borough, helping people stay active, improve their wellbeing and connect with nature. Behind the scenes, many of these valued spaces are cared for with the support of dedicated volunteers and local Friends groups, whose time and commitment help keep them welcoming and thriving for future generations. The Council is also continuing its long-term commitment to protecting the local environment through initiatives such as the Green Guarantee, which already safeguards more than 300 green spaces across the Borough from future development. With further sites due to be designated this year, the scheme will provide long-term protection for even more of the Borough’s valued green spaces. Together, these efforts are helping preserve the green spaces that make Telford and Wrekin such a great place to live, work and visit.
