Christ commanded us to tell others. At WOLBI, much emphasis is placed on this and rightly so. Our mission is to tell the whole world the “good news.” Through door to door evangelism, open air ministry and choir, we began to get a taste of the “fun” in witnessing.

President Jack Wyrtzen

Dear Graduates of the Class of ”82: This year is finished. What a time it was . . . learning. . . maturing . . . adapting. You will never be the same, I hope. Now there is “one verse more.” As the venerable “Bede” was translating the Gospel of John, age crept upon him. He drew near the end of his labor, but his strength failed him. His disciples cried, “Master, Master, there is one chapter more!” The master wrote on until his strength was gone. His disciples cried, “There is one verse more!”He summoned his failing strength and translated the one remaining verse. The master said, “It is finished.”He lay where he could fix his eyes upon the place where he used to pray, and there breathed out his spirit to the Savior whom he had glorified. You have applied yourselves diligently. Now you must continue to show person al loyalty to the crucified, risen, reigning Christ in the midst of a wicked, per verse, and adulterous generation. You will not have to pry open doors. Just ask the Lord to make you useable and you will have more to do than you have time for. Joshua 1:8. You will not have to seek greatness. Jeremiah 45:5, or despise the day of small things. Zechariah 4:10. Your one ambition is to be well-pleasing to the Lord. II Corinthians 5:9. Be alert to the fatalism that comes from extreme Calvinism and the humanism that comes from extreme Armenianism. Be on the lookout for the ecumenical movement which gives unity priority over the Word of God, the charismatic movement which gives experience priority over the Word of God, and the new- evangelicalism which gives fellowship priority over the Word of God. You are part of the Word of Life “family.” I hope you will ever look at Word of Life as one of your important homes here on earth. Keep at it.

YTours on the Victory Side, Jack Wyrtzen, Phil. 2:16

Vice President Harry Bolback

Dear Graduate, It hardly seems possible that a whole year has gone by .. . yesterday you arrived and already you are leaving us. This reminds us that “Only one life will soon be past, only whatfs done for Christ will last.” We trust that you are leaving us better prepared in the things of the Lord than when you arrived... better prepared to be that testimony for our Lord . . . better equipped to overcome the obstacles of life. You've been a great class and have been used of the Lord in many wonderful ways. If the Lord tarries, our prayer is that through the passing ofyears this class will continue to have a great record for the glo ry of God. Harry Bollback

“Therefore, my beloved brethern, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord”I Cor. 15:58 The most important measure of the training that you received here at the Bi ble Institute will be determined by the character of your beliefs ten years from now. If they remain basically unchanged from those taught here then you have learned your lessons well. If they have changed, then you would do well to ex amine yourself to see if perhaps you have not heeded the warning to be stead fast. While beliefs are important, so is work. Each of us needs to continually re mind ourselves that the only work that we can be sure is worthwhile is the Lord’s work. God grant that each of you may devote a major share of your life to that which is important. Stuart F. Page Col. 1:28, 29

Robert Gray Dean Of Men

Take time to behold Him, look oft in His face; And help will be given, new strength from His grace; Find Christ in the Scriptures; help there for the weak; As moment by moment His features you seek. Take time to behold Him, seek Christ in His Word; Spend much time in secret beholding thy Lord; As you look to Jesus, and Him only see- Transformed to His likeness thou surely shalt be. Take time to behold Him, rtwill quiet thy soul; Bring each thought and motive beneath His con trol; Thus changed to His image, and tuned to His praise, Effectual service will then fill thy days. J.I. Reese

Chris Miller Assistant Dean of Men And Instructor

“Three rope tricks," tours galore, weekend minis tries, sno-camp, and witnessing trips are just a few memories from a great year of service. And yet, in all of our service, we must not forget the most important things—as Jesus replied to one so involved in her activity, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one .. ” That one thing is worship and devotion to Him. You see, God doesn't need smarter pastors or big ger programs—He wants better worshipers. Ser vice is vitally important and I trust that we have had a part in preparing all of you for that. But remember that service to others really only flows out of worship of our Lord. Let's always remem ber and practice his words that". . . the hour co- meth, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship Him." (John 4:23) -Chris Miller

To the Class of 1982 We read in II Corinthians 4:7 “But we have this trea sure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God. and not of us.”and in Ephesians 3:20 “Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. This has truly been a foundational year for each one ofyou. I trust as you leave Word of Life Bible Insti tute that you will go forth and build on that strong foundation, always knowing that the true power comes from our Lord Jesus Christ and not your selves. I’m thankful for the opportunity I had in working with each one of you this year. I pray that your life will shine for Him, and that you will claim this power as you continue to live for Him. Luke 9:62... no man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God . . . If the man doing the ploughing looks anywhere but straight forward, his furrow gets crook ed. Fix your desires on the path ahead. Look on. Go on. May God give each one of you eyes that are fixed, and continue in the things which you have learned, ploughing a straight furrow. How often this year we have looked back, only to find ourselves struggling. Keep the lovingkindness of the Lord before your eyes. He was tempted in all points like as we are, but He never yielded. Might this be a class that never yields, greatly re joicing in what the Lord has done and will do in the future. Margo Conrad 21

Tom Davis Academic Dean

“I had a dream last night. . With these words we often began class to introduce a moment of comic relief before the rigors of academic study. However, with the completion of the school year I say in all seriousness, “I have a dream!”It is the glorious thought of over 350 young people heading out to serve the Lord! Iam aware of the nightmare my dream could become. The world , the fleshf and the devil form an unholy alliance bent on the destruction of our Chritian effectiveness. The only remedy is a steady diet of the meat of the word. This is begun in the daily Quiet Time , continued in personal Bible study and enriched through the local Bible teaching church. My warning: “Wherefore let him that thinks he stand take heed lest he fall.”My desire: “Give diligence to those things which become sound doctrine.”My encouragement: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”

In Christian love , Tom Davis

Ray Namie Director Of Evangelism

“Some want to live within the sound of a church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue ship within a yard of Hell.” -C.T. Studd I trust you’ll accept the challenge and great comission from our Lord to go into all the world and preach the gospel! I have really appreciated your enthusiasm for souls this year and all the hard work and busy hours in Snow Camp ministry!! Thanks to each one of you. Love ya,

Mr. Namie (Who-Ray?)

“Those who wish to sing always find a song.” This old Swedish proverb puts the future in the right perspec tive. Where we go from here is a matter of desire not a m atter of resources. Songs abound! The Lord is looking for men and women to sing them. The opportunities for service are limitless as are the avenues for failure. Success in the Christian life is not proportionate to ability; it is proportionate to desire. If we have no oth er desire than to accomplish His will, we will never lack for a smile and a song. “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that nei ther death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:31-39

Sometimes with dread, but mostly with anticipation, we ap proached second period on Tuesday morning. “I wonder what he’ll be like?—I heard he’s tough.—I heard he’s super!” By the end of classes we would know more about this new guest lectur er. Every week a new man of God would come to teach us a book of the Bible or a subject pertaining to our Christian lives and ministry. These men, all tops in their fields, would take time out of their schedules to come and minister to us both as a class and individually. They would always be available to talk about anything and everything. Coming from such places as Dallas Theological Seminary, Grace Theological Seminary, Philadelphia College of Bible and many others, they knew how to relate their subject to the questions and problems we were and will encounter in our service for the Lord. The class of 1982 would like to thank each guest lecturer who came this past year. Our lives were truly blessed by your ministry. ^_

Let m®3 tell you something . . . I had a dream last night that Mr. Wicks died of laughter while previewing his Snoopy comics for class. On the way up, he passed a dorm sup who was either on his way back to earth or just plain going in the wrong direction. Well, as it turned out, this unnamed dorm sup was on his way back to earth—he was returning to bring on the final revolt of a “Save the Ducks” campaign. Kenya dig it? If you can’t, then join the maintenance crew, they’re always digging into something new. “If you’re looking for something new - Hey!” Yes, that’s right, there will be hay rides, tubing, skiing, rollarskating ... oh yes, and guess what you can get absolutely free tonight only at Jack’s Snak Shak, Free?! Wow, that’s wicked awesome!! That’s one deal the deli doesn’t even offer! And now for the morning offering—Steve Kellenberger will lead in a word(s) of prayer. Secret Prayer Partners are neat— They’re the only kind of a partner you can have without needing an official third party. Party? Party? Birthday parties in the dorm are always great fun. In fact, they’re fuuun!... as Dr. Wemp would use the term in reference to witnessing. Witnessing by going door to door and passing out tracts on local church ministries, singing in Collegians, preaching and teaching in the “Open-Air” New York City style. But kind lady, kind sir, may I give you something good to read? Yes, I put in my 14 hours of reading at the library this week. Weak? No, not any more, my aerobics have helped turn flab into muscle. No muscles, just scallops, shrimp, and fillet fish for dinner tonight. Dinner with Joe?! Joe who? You say he “Stowell” your heart?! Better get your lock and chain out soon. Did you see the set of antennae that guy has? Who says WOL guys aren’t spacey—the Missions Conference was a BLAST! In fact we’ve only had one “Blue” week this year and its comforting to note that in that short four days period, everyone, happily, got their “Acts” together. -Debbie Reed

STUDENT COUNCIL

Elected by the student body in September, this dedicated group of peo ple planned the social activities of our class. They proved to be “the excellent choice” as all of their plans ran smoothly providing times of fun and fellow ship for all of us.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9,10

ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE

These representatives from each of the dorms carried out Student Council’s plans. Be tween Missions Confer ences, Valentine’s Ban quets, and concerts, they were kept quite busy.

Even though these students took a lot of hassle, we came to appreciate their love and concern for our growth, both spiritually and emotionally.

Someone once said, “Variety is the spice of life.” We heartily agree. These students have given us a new perspective on life through their own customs and tra ditions. Yet no matter how broad our cultural back grounds, we are one in the Lord.

Basketball Every weekend during winter quarter, our basketball teams matched their skills against talented teens from var ious church groups here for Snow Camp. They also played other Christian schools from the area. Each game was not only a time to test skill, but also one to allow Christ to be seen through good sportmanship. Our guys only lost two of their games while the girls were unde feated.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. These people endured that “extra mile” for a feel ing of self achievement. They went beyond the call of aerobics duty to run 100 miles in one quarter.

Yearbook Staff The Yearbook Staff, consisting of four students and an advisor, organized in mid-November. Being small has taught us much about taking on individual responsibility as well as working closely together as a staff. Doug, could you take a picture tonight of . . . What, no film?!... we need 2 verticle shots and one horizontal. Sue, I forgot, we need copy for this page too . . . There aren’t any typewriters that work?!... But Laura, we already laid that page out and besides I think we forgot to put the page number on it when we mailed it in . . . Debbie, it’s one thing to be corny, it’s another to be sick! . . . Are you sure you asked them for an ad? . . . Miss Tolliver, when’s our next deadline?! . . . Have the pictures come in by chance? The days have seemingly grown shorter whenever a dead line needed to be finished and after many sighs of relief, tears of anxiety, shouts of joy, the feelings of accomplish ment we hope to have presented the class with a cherished reminder of their year spent here at WOL.

Laura Grosvenor, Editor-in-Chief

Debbie Reed, Advertising Manager

Our special thanks to: -Miss Tolliver for her willingness to advise us at any time of the day or night. -Mr. Davis and Mike Strine for their assistance in the photography de partment. -Dave Bower, Mark Hall, and Mike Sliger for the SYM pages. -Steve Brooks for his artistic talents. -Ed Brown for portrait pictures. -Our YB representative, Steve Aloan, for the special blessing he was to us. -All who wrote and typed articles for this book. -Our friends who have upheld us in prayer.

Snow Camp Snow Camp—a time of fast paced action and fun, yet a time when important, life changing decisions are made. Every Friday afternoon during the winter quarter, our campus was invaded by teens, teens, and more teens. Here for one weekend, alone or with their church group, they were looking for something exciting-something to fill the void. Our ministry was to provide that “some thing” both spiritually and physically. With our weekly snow storm, every Thursday or Fri day, most of the outdoor activities were in full force. We had to dodge uncontrolled tubes, novice skiers and of course, snowballs. The road between the dining hall and Council Hall became a sculptor’s gallery with such creations as “Ziggy”, “Garfield”, whales, frogs, and a host of other interesting figures . . .

... But the camper’s spiritual life was the most important aspect of the weekend. It was a great joy to be able to share with so many teens the im portant truths for which they are searching. What a thrill to see a camper make a decision for salvation or dedication. And even if there was no outward sign, the seed had been planted. Every weekend held new opportuni ties for all of us. Whether out in front or behind the scenes, each job was an important one that made the entire program run smoothly. Snow Camp was a challenge met and conquered by the class of 1982.

Open Air Campaigners

. . Watch and pray and press the fight Truceless Warfare, Truceless Warfare!

Summer, winter, day and night, May no lure of ease intrigue us. May no fear of men beseige us Till our glorious Lord Jesus Leads us into realms of Light . .

As their theme suggests, the fighting men of OAC NYC know what commitment to Christ means, for they are in the front lines. These faithful men took time out to show us that the battle is the Lord’s and He is winning. They taught, commanded, exhorted - pushing the group onward. For their examples we stand forever grateful. Eric D. Kunkel

Special thanks to: Mr. Namie, Mr. Harvey, Miss Conrad, Mr. Miller, and Miss Tolliver for giving of their time to go with the teams into New York City on the ten day trips. All who have prayed for us.

98

My ministry was Open Air Evangelism. To me Open Air is a dynamic ministry because of its effectiveness. I learned that God used me and will use anybody who is willing to go and share the Gospel. I saw people’s lives saved and people’s lives changed right on the street and it opened my eyes to a great need for every Christian to make personal evangelism a way of life. Rosalie D’Amico

I had the opportunity and privilege to be one of the many students who were involved in the Open Air ministry. It’s an experience I believe I will never forget. I hope and pray others were ministered to by my work on the streets, but even when at times, no one responded, I was ministered to. The Lord gave me boldness as I was brought closer to Christ. My faith was increased as I saw God work and others trust Him. I pray I will always remember New York, the people, the boldness, the nearness, and the faith. Larry Zuiderveen

“Go ye into New York City - Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, Time Square, subways, 5th ave. and 42nd Sts with your sketchboard, paints, and rope tricks and be my witnesses, proclaiming the gospel to business men and women on their lunch hour, boys and girls after school, the down and out sleeping in the sub ways, and all who pass your way.” This open-air commission led me to stand on a plant er on 5th Ave and gaze with mouth open as thou sands of people passed by. Some too busy to look sideways, some taking tracts, some drawn by the crowd to the sidewalk meeting, some listening and rejecting the gospel, and some realizing their need for a Savior and being counselled and assured of their decision and follow-up. We rejoiced with those in heaven and didn’t want to leave after ten days as we had become aware of the great need that was in this large city. I counted it a real privilege that the Lord could use me as a part of a team of 25 students to shine forth the light of His truth. Jackie Barling P.S. It took an Austrailian to get this work going!!

Collegians

They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness. Psalm 145:7

James 1:22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Collegians has been my opportunity to put what I’m learning at school into practice. Some of the many things I’ve learned are: how to share the gospel simply and quickly after an invitation, how to discern people’s spiritual needs, the great unity among “strangers” who are actually brothers and sis ters in Christ, the difference in people’s home, parts of my person ality that bug others, how I work under pressure, and how to take things as they come because as a Collegian you never know what to expect. It’s been a great experience. Sharon Bauman

Weekend ministry with the Word of Life Colle gians is a great evangelical outreach. We provide inspirational songs in local churches. Before most programs, we go door to door witnessing, sharing Christ and inviting people to our program. I enjoy this ministry because it is a blessing to see people enlightened as the Word of God through music ministers to their hearts. , , Marc Oden
