LUNCHEON KEYNOTE Overdose Prevention Training: Ensure Your Employees Can Respond and Save Lives Dr. Aaron Hunt, MPH, PhD, Gabriela Murza and Ty Empey Recent research indicates an increased risk of industry employees witnessing an opioid overdose at work or in their personal lives. This led USU to develop tailored trainings for employees to respond to opioid overdose and save lives. Attendees will receive an on-site emergency overdose prevention kit that includes Narcan, a CPR mask, gloves, and key items needed to respond to an overdose. Substance Abuse Among Construction Workers- Study reported by the American Addiction Centers The construction industry has been particularly affected by the opioid epidemic, and workers in this field are among the most susceptible to opioid abuse. About 1.3% of construction workers have an opioid use disorder, almost twice the national average according to a report from the National Safety Council.Additional statistics from this study pertaining to construction workers include: • 12% have an alcohol use disorder compared to 7.5% nationally • 16.5% of construction workers reported heavy alcohol consumption within the past month, nearly twice the average of all full-time workers surveyed • 11.6% of construction workers reported illicit drug use within the past month • 14.3% of construction workers were diagnosed with a substance use disorder in the past year, more than 1 ½ times the average of all full-time workers surveyed • 2.3% have a marijuana use disorder Ty Empey will be sharing a glimpse of his own personal journey through addiction and recovery including overdose and overdose prevention. He will also talk about community resources and how to have conversations with loved ones who might be struggling with substance abuse.

Fall Protection Truck Presentation & Demonstration Lance Williamson, Shur-Sales and Marketing, Inc.

This is an introductory or refresher course. Participants will learn about proper anchorages, harness usage, self-retracting lifelines, descent, and rescue. The session also covers pertinent OSHA and ANSI standards and features a live drop demonstration to showcase the mpact of a fall. Lance Williamson has represented the DBI Sala and Protecta brands of fall protection for 24 years in the Rocky Mountain West and has conducted hundreds of training sessions in a variety of industries.
