THE SHARED STRENGTH OF TRUE FRIENDSHIP LOYALTY AND LIGHT
“How’s it going?”
We’ve been through plenty of ups and downs over the years, ranging from seeing our business thrive to being there for one another through emotional challenges and the illnesses and deaths of dear loved ones. Some days, I’m up, and he’s down. Other days, I’m
Just like “I love you,” the three words above are among the most important in my life. God calls us to love and support others, and I strive to be more available to people and take a greater interest in their lives every day. I’m a firm believer that our friendships and relationships, along with God’s teaching, are what help us most in living a long, healthy, and grounded life. Two minds and hearts are better than one, and we risk our happiness and fulfillment when we isolate ourselves and make life just about us. Whether they’re professional, romantic, or based deeply on friendship, the partnerships we form in life should always be counted among our greatest blessings. This sentiment is especially relevant these days, as February is International Friendship Month. It’s the perfect time to honor those extraordinary friendships that have enriched your life and reflect on your own successes or areas of improvement in being a source of support, comfort, and security to
down, and he’s up. No matter what, we’re always there to listen to each other and persevere together. While he’s my business partner out on the farm, he’s “Uncle Carey” in my home. My family and I spend a lot of time with him, and he buys our children gifts at Christmas. The kids adore him, especially now that they’re spending more time with us at the farm. It’s been a joy showing them how strong and meaningful a friendship can be.
others. When I consider the value of friendship outside of the ones I share with my beloved family, my thoughts lead to one person: Carey.
Best of all, I see how the spirit of friendship has deeply inspired how our children conduct themselves in the world around them. Gavin and Ella always go out of their way to help their classmates and friends, and Juliet has a positive, open spirit that’s sure to grow even more beautiful as she gets older. In today’s world, it’s far too easy for us to get stuck in our own heads. Plenty of things in our country and life in general can certainly be stressful, but having someone who can help pull you out of yourself is perhaps the most significant benefit of friendship. If you have a great friend (or many!)
Carey has been my partner in my farm business, RC Trees, for nearly a decade. I’ve known him for about 30 years now, and we share a common passion for helping people and doing the right things for ourselves and those we love. I have two sisters, so Carey has been the closest thing to a brother I’ve ever had. We share the same values, and we’ve always had a friendship built on honesty, mutual care, and respect.
in your life, always take the time to celebrate everything they mean to you … and never turn away from an opportunity to be a great friend to someone else.

VISIONS AND VOICES INSIDE THE ‘FOUNDERS’ FORMULA FOR SUCCESS
we’re down in the trenches. One of the ways I work to rise above these feelings when they appear is by dedicating myself to learning new things. Although my schedule doesn’t always allow me to read as many books as I’d like, I’m an avid podcast listener, and there’s one in particular I’m excited to tell you about. As I’ve written before in this newsletter, I’m a big fan of a podcast called “The Tim Ferriss Show.” Recently, Tim welcomed a guest who has truly helped broaden my horizons. His name is David Senra, and he hosts the “Founders” podcast. Over the past several years, David has produced hundreds of episodes that explore the lives of the most prosperous individuals in history. A dedicated and passionate researcher, David has a gift for getting inside the minds and histories of super-successful people, including the likes of Warren Buffett, James Dyson, and Michael Dell (just to name a few). He breaks down these individuals’ stories and explores the many rabbit holes of who influenced them, how they overcame obstacles, and how they achieved greatness. Whether sharing biographical information or interacting with these figures directly through one-on-one interviews, he presents colorful, insightful, and deeply inspiring portraits of fascinating people. Hello! I’m excited to share my first update of the new year with you. First, I’m happy to say that my sister, Juliet, isn’t the only member of our family who’s jumping these days! As I mentioned here before, I love horseback riding. I’ve been doing it for at least a third of my life, and it feels more fun all the time. Recently, I reached the stage where I can do real jumps with my favorite horse at the horse farm. The jumps aren’t too high, but I still need to concentrate and be in control of the situation. I’m happy that I’m still riding after so many years. I started doing it as a way to try something new, and I’ve stuck with it ever since. Even when I’m a little nervous, I enjoy challenging myself. Horseback riding is an excellent mix of grit and joy, and horses are such wonderful, calming animals. By the time you receive this month’s newsletter, Juliet will have started riding as well. I hope she’ll end up loving it as much as I do. The last time I updated you all, I was rehearsing for my stage debut in my school’s production of “Elf.” Well, the big day arrived, and it was so much fun! I really enjoy acting and dancing as an elf. For my first time acting, I think it went really well! For me, the biggest lesson I learned from being on stage is to try new things. Even if you make mistakes, it’s a chance to grow and be a more well-rounded person. If there’s something new you’d like to do this year, you should definitely do it!
Inspiration can come from many places; you just have to look (or listen) for it.
Let’s be honest: We all have down days from time to time. Whether you own a business, are raising a family, or are simply trying to make the best of your life, it’s sometimes too easy to focus on the negative when

You can listen to the “Founders” podcast on all the major podcast platforms. My favorite recent episode of the Founders Podcast is #385 featuring Michael Dell, which walks through his extraordinary life and journey building Dell. The episode runs nearly two hours, but the most important takeaway is found in the final five minutes — and it may surprise you. I strongly encourage you to listen all the way through; the ending brings everything together in a powerful way!
