WHAT WE ARE

TO BE

WE ARE

NOW BECOMING . . .

The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree ; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Psalm 92:12 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of w ater, that bring eth forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Psalm 1:3

; IT*

To You, Lord . . .

4

Dear Heavenly Father, We thank You for this special year! A year filled with the wonder of Your creation surround - ing us, and the wonder of Your creative power in our own lives. You have made the mountains and the land; the waters and the trees; You have made all. Day by day You lead us and watch over us as we struggle to learn and grow in Your truth; as our hearts and eyes open to the perfect plan You will work through each one of us. Your glory is manifested through our lives as we serve you faithfully. We dedicate this book to You, with hearts filled with Your peace and Your love; know ing that the Living Word is our strength, re - membering always ' 'The entrance of YourWord giveth light. ''

Colossians 2:6,7 As ye have, therefore, received Chris Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him, Rooted and built up in him, and estat lished in the faith, as ye have been taught abounding with thanksgiving.

Word Of Life Collegians From Miami, FL. to Lancaster, PA. with ' ’Ring the Bells' ' ; from Augusta ME. to Ottawa, Canada on weekend ministries; and from Syracuse , NY to Detroit, Ml with the Passion Play, the Collegians traveled and sang . We will always have fond memories of the snowstorm in Syracuse and the sunny weather in Florida. But above all, we'll remember the people who came forward to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior, and to dedicate their lives to Him . May we always sing for the glory of the Lord and remember what He's done for us.

Actors, Front And Center . . . On a Friday night in October many stu dents decided to be a part of the skit show. It was everything from corny, hilarous to serious. The dorm supes did an excellent job of acting out the students when con fronted by a supe, to receiving demerits in the MAIL. The 1'Book of Life'' skit con tained a message concerning souls that will last for eternity in either heaven or hell. This skit challenged many to be true to their personal Savior and God spoke to hearts em phasizing the importance of His Word . Sev eral other skits made skit nite an impres sionable evening, and to conclude an even ing at WOLBI, we were entertained with do - nuts and apple cider.

Freedom To Preach . . . Peter Pankratz converses with Mr. Vins in Russian. On Thursday, May 24, GeorgiP. Vins, formerly a pastor in Rus sia, visited WOLBI, and spoke in a chapel we will never forget. Through an interpreter, Jane Ellis, M r. Vins related to us how just a month ago, he was in prison for preaching the Word of God. He warned us as students not to take our religious freedom for granted, and told of how Christian young people in Russia were risking their lives to print Bibles on home-made printing presses. His heartfelt desire is to return to his people and continue to preach about the greatest freedom pos

sible , that which is through Jesus Christ.

Jack asks questions to Mr. Vins while Jane Ellis in terprets . Mr. Vins reads Philippians 1 to his people over the radio.

As most Thanksgiving mornings start with a football game, so did the one at WOLBI. A balmy breeze and an overcast sky made it a perfect day. The Powder Puffs would every one up for the main event with their fantastic rendition of flag football. Then the students played an exciting game against a tough fac ulty team. This was the Turkey Bowl in its finest m om ent. After the morning fun, every one was ready for the formal event, the Thanksgiving Banquet. Everything was per fect, ice sculptures, gym decorations, and a delicious m eal cooked only as the kitchen staff knows how. Four January students shared their testimony of the year and said farew ell. Pastor Walter Holder, the main speaker, spoke con cerning our country's condition. The Colleg ians first performance of Ring the Bells was enhanced by the first snowfall of the year. It may not have been Thanksgiving life at home, but it was a special Thanksgiving Day at WOLBI.

The Key Word Is Enthusiasm!

Each weekend started off with a meeting and then a thing-am a-jig . . . it was only the beginning. As time ticked on enthusiasm spread as counselors and campers shared precious moments tubing, skiing, and other activities. Saturday, campers challenged campers in sports spectular while counselors challenged campers spiritually. Saturday evening many campers made the decision to receive Jesus as Saviour. Enthusiasm had reached its climax by Saturday night for the champion ship basketball game between WOLBI and the afternoon winners. Sunday morning meetings closed with many campers dedicating their lives to the Lord. Many left WOL Snow Camp with a new desire to serve Jesus Christ.

The Cheerleaders and the pep band were also there to cheer them to victory, and they ended up as undefeated champs during the whole Snow Camp season. Basketball Team: (LtoR, Front) J. DeYoung, T. "Set Up" . . . For what? To make your own subs ? ! It was a special night sponsored by Stu dent Council. Students from the cabins and dorms formed volley ball and basketball teams to compete against each other. Vol ley balls and basket balls traveled all over the court indicating tough competition as the married stu dents refereed. An exciting night it was especially for the winners. It was a time of relaxation and fun and to top it off, we had the chance to make our own sundae. DE LICIOUS !

Janurary 1, 1979 the Missionary Conference commenced. Several mission boards were represented, such as: Cen tral American Mission, Unevangelized Field Mission, Pocket Testament League, The Evangelical Alliance Mission, International Mission, Gospel Missionary Union, Sudan Interior Mission, Missionary Aviation Fellowship, New Tribes, Child Evangelism Fellowship, WOL Overseas, and Association of Baptist for World Evangelism. President of ABWE, Dr. Wendell Kempton, was the m ain speaker for the conference . January 4, 1979 the conference ended with a banquet and Colonel Jack McGuckin as the speaker for the evening. Many lives were challenged to the importance of spreading the Gospel and commitments were made to serve faithfully. So now all over the world people will hear the truth about Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. For now is the time of spreading this news around the world. And the faith promise of $39,060 is only the beginning of our obedience to Christ ’scom m and: ’'Asthe Father hath sent me , so send I you. ’’

'' It starts at 6:00. '' '' I know. ' ' That was the beginning of an evening of snapping pictures, giving flowers and eating a delicious meal in the unrecog nizable red and white dining hall. Bob &Patty Fischer along with the WOL Ensemble made the m eal a delight as they sang to the glory of God. Even though it was Valentines Day, our focus was on one person: Jesus Christ, as being the valentine of our hearts. Near the end of the evening, Bruce Peterson made the love of Jesus real to us by speaking on I Corinthians 13, the Love Chapter.

' 'You're probably wondering why I called all of you here. ''

Which Temperament Are You?

The week of March 12-16, 1979, Dr. GMrs. Tim LaHaye graciously informed us about how to understand ourselves better when we know what temperament we are: Sanguine, Phleg matic, Choleric or Melancholy. Their semi nars on yielding each area of our lives to God challenged many to another step of growth with the Lord Jesus Christ. Truly, Jack Wyrt- zen's messages on Love, Courtship, and Mar riage were helpful to many in their thinking about tomorrow. M.A. Butler got many ex cited about the Lord's return as he taught us concerning upcoming events in the world and prophecy yet to be fulfilled. In giving us sound doctrine, Pastor Hibbard stimulated our minds in the ten building blocks of a Christian min istry. Harry Bollback again motivated and encouraged each one to be active in the Lord's work. Likewise, Pastor Tom Mahairas shared his exciting testimony of how he came to know the Lord. Remembering the final impression of the conference, its impact left many of us changed and seeking to serve the true, living God more faithfully.

I

You Are Beautiful To Me

He went his way and she went her way, but this day they go their way together. Mark and Charlene Whittaker renewed marriage vows on March 15, 1979 and openly confessed their desire to serve the Lord as man and wife . Jack performed the ceremony and Harry challenged each to live a committed life . May God bless them as they travel this road in life in the name of Jesus.

Congratulations to the 1979, WORD OF LIFE, graduating class. As a business m an , I would like to share 3 verses that have helped me in my Christian life.

Matt .6:33 But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. If Jesue is your personal Saviour and you put Him first, seek to live according to His Word, He will provide such things as a job, college decisions, fu ture mate, and the things you will need in life.

I Cor. 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat or drink or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. When you are trying to determine what's the right thing to do, ask yourself, ' 'Can I do it and bring glory to my Saviour? ' ' Unless the answer is yes, DON'T DO IT.

Phil. 4:131 can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. When you are discouraged and ready to give up in life , remember God gives us the strength to do what He has called us to do.

The above 3 verses will apply in your life no matter what field you might choose. A friend in Christ, Bob Vallandingham
