BRAHL Annual Report

LOUISIANA ASSOCIATION OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELORS AND TRAINERS

ABOUT US

Through BRAHL, Holy Grill participants had access to a broad number of activities and services related to health and good nutrition. In the first months of the year, we held events in partnership with Southern University Ag Extension, LSU Ag, Ochsner Health, American Heart Association, Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, and many others. More than 100 of our regular clients received health screenings, recipes for low-cost nutritious meals, assistance with SNAP signups, and many more resources.

SERVING THE COMMUNITY

In support of the Baton Rouge Advancing Healthcare Literacy (BRAHL), LASACT and its partners collaborated to develop an enhanced clinical supervisor curriculum. This curriculum aims to equip supervisors with the skills to engage diverse participants and cater to the needs of underserved communities. The training focuses on empowering supervisors to serve as peer counselors and valuable members of marginalized and vulnerable workforce communities. By addressing Substance Misuse, the curriculum provides students with a comprehensive understanding of substance abuse, addiction treatment medications, and co-occurring conditions. The workshop conducted on February 27 received positive feedback, and participants eagerly anticipate future similar sessions. The evaluations received from the participants demonstrate how well the workshop was received and the need for more educational opportunities exists. Effective addiction professionals must know how to address the needs of underserved communities by understanding the misuse of substances, medications used in addiction treatment, and co-occurring conditions.
