A FEEL OF THE ACTION ON FIELD DAY

And action there was. The first field day was an afternoon of team competition in gusy and girls softball, guys and girls basketball, mixed volleyball, and mixed doubles in tennis. The competition was rough, and it was a great day in the out-of-doors getting a lot of exercise and enjoying the fellowship with each other. Following the competition was a delicious barbecue at the Ranger Camp. This was just a warm-up for what was to follow. The big Field Day arrived. Teams were made up of a guys’ dorm and a girls’ dorm group. Finally, the action got under way. Each team went from field to field competing to their fullest. Some of the events included volleyball, softball, basketball, football, soccer, crab- soccer, and tug-of-war. Then came the event of

events - the 7-part relay. A sprinter from each team led the way to a wheel-barrel race couple which continued with a 4-legged run to the leap-frog team. Then a 5-person rope-run went to the quick-pyramid-building team which sent three people off in a canoe without any paddles. The canoe team turned and came back to the beach (by then soaked, of course) as one paddler was carried in the canoe by the rest of his teammates to the finish line. Whew! The champions were the guys from Kenya dorm and several girls from Europe dorm. The day finished with another tasty barbecue and worn-out bodies.
