Saline County Library Beyond the Stacks March 2022

Letter from the Director Winter, slumbering in the open air, wears on its smiling face a dream of spring! -Samuel Taylor Coleridge (& Phil Connors) I’m writing this in mid-February when the weather is 70 degrees one day and 40 degrees the next and there is definitely a dream of spring. Hopefully by the time you are reading it there will be real signs of spring. One thing you can look for is our new straw bale community garden along the east side of the building in Benton. Healing Waters has a grant to provide materials to set up straw bale gardens at organizations in the community and we were lucky enough to get one. If you’re unfamiliar with straw bale gardening, it involves using straw bales (not hay bales) as a raised bed for growing…just about anything. They’re especially good for areas with poor soil or if you need a quick, inexpensive raised bed. We’ll be doing programs during the spring using our garden. If you’re interested in being part of the community garden or learning more about straw bale gardening, watch our event calendar or sign up for our newsletter. - Patty

Thank you for being a friend!

The Friends of the Library are a dedicated group of volunteers who raise money to donate to the library. In February 2019, they opened a Used Book Store at the Benton branch which is open any time the library is open, and closes 30 minutes before the library closes. Visitors can browse the Used Book Store and bring their items upstairs to pay. You can also browse the Bryant Used Book Store section for a variety of materials. The Friends of the Library are always taking applications for new Friends! Fill out a form online or visit either branch to fill out a form in person. They also take donations of gently-used books, DVDs, video games, and more at both branches. Visit our website for information on donations they do not accept.
