“We are literally the only place this side of Hobart, and probably this side of Hobart for the rest of the island, that you can stop in and have a glass of fine wine, a craft beer off tap, a fine single malt whiskey or cognac, bespoke cocktail or some tapas and we’re pretty much the only place that has all that under the one roof,” McQuade said. “There are lots of great places that have got a good beer selection or maybe some nice wines etc, but there’s not really anywhere that has a bit of everything and that was the ethos when we opened the bar many, many years ago. “Kingston was up and coming, there were more and more young people moving there, more and more people from the mainland moving that sort of wanted something like this in the neighbourhood. Again, it is great that Dan and Jordy get recognised for doing such a good job and making sure that it stayed a consistent little neighbourhood bar that everyone loves to stop in and have a beer or a cocktail.” Robbie Brown’s will not only face stiff competition Situated on Osborne Esplanade just metres from the beach, Robbie Brown’s offers an environment for patrons which would fit right in among many central city venues. Bringing that vibe down the Southern Outlet was the driving motivation for McQuade – who hails from Scotland – and plenty of blood, sweat and tears have gone into not only transforming the offerings at the bar, but also revamping the restaurant next door. But it has all been worth it to establish a popular venue in a prime location which is part of a booming municipality.
