How to Make the Most of the Season’s Offerings
As the leaves change colors and the air turns crisp, the fall season offers an excellent opportunity to embrace the beauty of nature, engage in cozy activities, and make lasting memories. From enjoying the weather as it cools off to indulging in seasonal treats and preparing for the holidays, here are some tips we recommend to make the most of your fall season! Embrace the fresh air. If autumn in North Carolina is characterized by anything, it’s the colorful foliage as leaves transform landscapes into vibrant red, gold, and orange palettes. Make the most of your time outdoors by taking leisurely walks and runs in nearby parks and nature trails, exploring streams and rivers, exercising, or even checking out the beach. Don’t leave your camera behind — this season is a great time to snap some gorgeous pictures. Visit pumpkin patches and apple orchards. With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to choose your pumpkins for carving and decoration and to enjoy picking crisp apples for baking and snacking. Many pumpkin patches and orchards also offer hayrides, corn mazes, and other family-friendly activities for a memorable day out. Here are some local patches to check out:
Decorate your home. Nothing says fall like decorating your home with seasonal accents and decor. Hang a festive wreath on your front porch or door, place colorful gourds and pumpkins on and around your doorstep, and incorporate warm-toned leaves and foliage indoors. Don’t forget the scented candles to help channel the cozy vibes! When Halloween rolls around, you can even go all- out and get a bit spooky with your decorations! Bake fall treats. Delicious treats highlight the season. Apple pies, pumpkin pies, cornbread, cinnamon-spiced cookies, and other fall- inspired goodies are all perfect for this time of year, not to mention they are sure to leave your house smelling amazing with yummy aromas wafting through the air. Don’t forget that baking with family and friends is always a great bonding experience! Practice gratitude. Just because Thanksgiving isn’t here yet doesn’t mean it’s too early to start being intentional and thankful. As the year begins to wind down, reflect on your blessings and practice gratitude. Be sure to create lasting memories with those you love, appreciate time together, and cultivate a positive mindset. This autumn, embrace the season’s beauty and life itself. HONEY-PECAN CHICKEN BREASTS
With summer over and fall here, pecan and honey reign supreme in this sweet chicken recipe. The honey provides a perfect caramelization while pecans pack on the crunch factor!

Ingredients
• 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
• 2 6-oz boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
• 1 tbsp butter
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 3 tbsp honey
• 1/4 tsp garlic powder
• 2 tbsp finely chopped pecans
• 1/8 tsp black pepper
Directions
1. Pound chicken with a meat mallet to 1/2-inch thickness. Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. 2. In a large nonstick skillet, heat butter over medium heat; brown chicken on both sides. Cook covered until chicken is no longer pink, about 6–8 minutes, turning once. 3. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with pecans. Cook covered until chicken is glazed, about 2–3 minutes.

The True Legend of Porphyrios
Social media lit up in spring with news that orcas were attacking boats in Portugal and Spain. Experts can’t agree on why, but it’s not the first time whales have gone rogue. The Byzantine Empire dealt with a similar problem in the form of a fearsome whale they named Porphyrios. Porphyrios struck terror into the hearts of those in Constantinople during the 6th century; he spent roughly 50 years attacking boats in the area. Then he would disappear for years, but the locals never knew when he would reappear to sink more ships. The whale caused so many problems that Emperor Justinian I prioritized killing him. But even renowned war strategists couldn’t take Porphyrios down. Unfortunately for Porphyrios, he beached himself near the Black Sea, and the Byzantines took advantage and viciously ended his reign. Despite his end, Porphyrios is still the only whale to threaten the Byzantine Empire.
