Welcome
Seven Decades of Breeding Registered Angus Seedstock
Les & Rachel Hall Family
We want to welcome you to the Hall Ranch cow herd dispersion sale. We need to thank past and present customers that have supported our program, because without you, we would-n’t have gotten to the point we are at. The history of this cow herd starts with the purchase of the ranch in 1901 by the Great Grandfather of Ed, Carolyn, and Beverly Hall. In the early years, the ranch was stocked with shorthorn cattle and later on transitioned to running Herefords. A progressive decision was made in 1960 when Ed and Carolyn purchased 20 Bardo- lier-mere, Blackcap, and Eileenmere cows which became the ranch’s first registered Angus cat- tle. Hall family loyalty has been with the black Angus cow over the past 65 years. In addition to raising and breeding black Angus cattle, the AI program was instituted in the late 1980s in order to enhance breeding genetics. Ed and his wife Betty held private treaty bull sales in the 1970s and made the jump to an an-nual production sale in 1982. The tradition continues with a two-year-old bull sale on the first Wednesday in March, and the ranch will be having their 45th annual production sale on March 4th, 2026, at the Bassett Livestock Auction in Bassett, NE. Animals are raised on a mixture of Niobrara River Valley, hard, and Sandhills grasses. The ranch also runs yearlings, many of our own, along with the purchased steers from our cus-tomers. We have always run under the motto of Pasture Raised and Range Ready for our bull sales. Goals for the ranch have always been and still include raising productive, efficient maternal cows. Management practices have strived to create a long hipped, deep bodied, feminine headed female. Our bull program strives to provide a genetic package that will produce high quality feeder cattle for ourselves and our customers. Our cattle work for their keep. Cows forage in pasture throughout the winter, and their dispositions allow for the ease of sorting, calving, and breeding. Selling the Hall Angus tradition was not a light-hearted decision. Labor demands of an op-eration of this quality has required our family to make a decision that is in everyone’s best interest, including the cows. To sell the cattle at their peak ensures that the Hall Angus cat-tle can go to work for someone else’s program and continue the legacy they have built. Thank you for taking the time to view the sale book. The cows will be on grass, and we wel-come you to visit the ranch to see the cows on their home range. Please give Les a call to work out a time. We look forward to seeing you on October 17 at the Bassett Livestock Auc- tion in Bassett, Nebraska, to buy the kind that build a herd.
