A LIBRARY FOR JMU’S
SITUATED STRATEGICALLY ON THE QUAD, the Carrier Library of 2026 and beyond will become the intellectual and physical crossroads of campus, dedicated to preserving the earliest ways of sharing knowledge, exploring the most innovative approaches to discovery, and forging ties to scholars, media and cultures around the globe. It will be a modern and welcoming place that embodies the university’s evolution into a national research institution while honoring its rich history and undergraduate focus. Faculty, students and community members will gather here to pursue, create and share knowledge for the common good.
As the largest learning environment and most-visited building on campus, the new Carrier Library will play a pivotal role in enriching every student’s Madison Experience.

Nearly $4.5 million has already been given toward our $5 million goal. Act now to help reach this milestone by the grand reopening in Fall 2026. Educational Technology Fund the new and regularly refreshed sophisticated tools, technology, media and facilities that support teaching, learning and communicating knowledge in libraries and classrooms across campus.
Teaching and Research Support Outfit the conservation lab for books and manuscripts, a cutting-edge digital forensics lab; equip the Special Collections teaching space; and bolster essential research collections, including manuscripts, rare and “retro” media formats and online resources. Art and Exhibits Provide the technology and equipment to support rotating art exhibits, enrich exhibit and gallery spaces, and enhance the showcase spaces of the Furious Flower Poetry Center’s video archives.
