Supporting British Racing – The Jockey Club Annual Review

Annual Review and Outlook 2019

breaking down the stigma associated with mental health. The flagship film for the campaign was shown on every racecourse and was watched more than 171,000 times on social media. Visits to Racing Welfare’s website increased by 67% on the previous week’s figures with people seeking out information about the charity and its services. Racing Welfare’s mental health services are part of the charity’s Workforce Wellbeing strand, which has secured funding for the next three years through a £3.9 million partnership with The Racing Foundation. The grant, which is the largest ever awarded by the funding body, covers the cost of Racing’s Support Line, the Careers Advice and Training Service (CATS), and Racing’s Occupational Health Service, in addition to the charity’s provision for mental

health. The Racing Foundation also part-funded the industry- wide mental health research published by Racing Welfare in May 2019. Representing Racing Welfare’s other major awareness campaign of the year, Racing Staff Week runs from 29th June to 6th July. The week seeks to shine a light on the contribution of everyone working in racing and sees industry stakeholders coming together with racecourses, trainers and studs to recognise and champion the passion, dedication and skill of their employees. THE JOCKEY CLUB AND ACCESSIBILITY In 2018, The Jockey Club became the first organisation in British sport to provide people with a disability and carers with Detailed Accessibility Guides for our facilities in a first-of-its-kind partnership with AccessAble,

the UK’s leading provider of access information. The initiative followed extensive site visits to all 15 of The Jockey Club’s racecourses and the Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket. The online guides are available via both The Jockey Club and AccessAble’s websites and analyse facilities ranging from car parking spaces and viewing ramps to hearing loops and lighting levels. As a result, people with a disability and carers are now able to buy tickets and plan days out supported by helpful facts, figures and photographs. Since The Jockey Club launched the initiative in November 2018, the Premier League has now also partnered with AccessAble to provide similar guides to its stadia. Other organisations working with AccessAble include major High Street retailers such as Marks & Spencer and Next. 
