Biola Broadcaster - 1967-04

with Dr. Samuel H. Sutherland and Dr. Charles L. Feinberg

It is man and all the many churches that man has set up that bother me. Most ministers say they use only the Bible as a text or guide; however, most of them seem to come up with different concepts, ideas and, doc trines. I would like to go to church, but it is all very confusing to me. What does a person look for? Any help you can give m il be most ap preciated.” A. We here at Biola don’t want to give forth any uncertain sound in what is said over the air. As long as you look at men, you will be con fused. There are many whims and fancies they propound. This is where false doctrines come in. They take portions out of context from the Bi ble and make them fit their own cir cumscribed ideologies. As to what you look for in selecting a church, remember none of them are perfect for they are made up of saved sin ners like you and me, First of all, attend a church where the minister preaches that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour, and that salvation comes only through faith in Him. He should be a man who holds to the infallibility of the Bible, and accepts it as his final authority as far as the church is concerned. The church should be upholding the great basic fundamental truths to be found in Scripture such as the virgin birth of Christ, the sinless life of the Lord, 21

Q . Craig, Colo. — “Could you please explain Mark 9:US to U7?” A. This has reference to followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. John was concerned about those who cast out devils in the name of the Lord but were not of their specific band. Jesus rebuked him with the reminder, that if the individual were not against Him, he was for Him. Even a cup of water given in Christ’s name will be rewarded. Then He adds, “And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.” See how He em phasizes the danger of overstepping and being found in opposition to His will. We are not to be the cause of any one’s stumbling. Then He talks about the offending hand and how that it would be better to enter into life maimed, than to have two hands and go into hell. The point here is that we are not to let anything, even that which is so near and dear to us, cause a person to stumble, or to hin der our spiritual lives. Q . Inglewood, Calif. — “7 have only heard your program a few times, but each one has been very sound. I won der if you could help me. I am not a Christian or ‘a saved person,’ as you say. I t is not that I do not believe in God, or His Son, or the Bible.
