Integrating Research into Our Care Our facility is the first of its kind — where clinicians, scientists, innovators and technologists work together in the same space, surrounding patients, discovering new approaches and applying (or “translating”) research in real time. This translational care model enables you to have access to the brightest minds, the latest research and the best opportunity for recovery.
We have a global reputation for developing treatments and technologies that translate into better outcomes for patients. At Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, our research enterprise is among the largest of its kind in the world, renowned for discoveries in biomedical, neural, mechanical and electrical engineering; bionics; molecular/ cellular biology; robotics; and pharmacotherapeutics. Currently, we have more than 300 clinical trials and research studies underway, ranging from simple collection of normative human movement data to sophisticated interventions using state-of- the art methodologies.
Medicine and science come together as our clinicians, scientists and — importantly — patients collaborate in our ability labs, dynamic applied-research and therapeutic spaces. Our experts quickly are adopting new approaches and evidence-based practices into their care to facilitate better, faster patient recoveries. You may have an opportunity to participate in research during your stay.
