Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Inpatient Program

Adaptive Sports & Fitness Program The Adaptive Sports & Fitness Program gives individuals with a primary physical impairment the opportunity to participate

600 individuals with a primary physical impairment. Participants can engage in archery; boccia; golf; hand cycling; rock climbing; scuba; sled hockey; wheelchair softball, basketball and rugby; and — our newest offering — swimming. Our programs are designed for a range of populations, from kids to veterans, and promote social connection and camaraderie for participants and families alike.

ADAPTIVE SPORTS Our program engages athletes of all skill levels — from novices eager to try a new sport to athletes training for elite-level competition, including the Paralympics and the Invictus Games. The goal of our program is to increase participants’ self-confidence, reduce isolation, promote healthy and active lifestyles, and introduce a sense of possibility to athletes who might not otherwise have access to adaptive sports and recreational opportunities. As Chicago’s largest and most comprehensive adaptive sports program, each year we provide sports and recreational activities to more than HURON STREET

in a variety of year-round sports and recreational activities, such as adaptive sports and fitness classes. Through these offerings, we strive to provide safe and welcoming places for participants of all ages and abilities to socialize and engage in physical activity and fitness. FITNESS CENTER Our Fitness Center provides clients with a well-equipped, accessible gym designed for people of all abilities. We offer fitness services and modified group classes to help participants achieve their fitness goals. Each year, we serve more than 250 community members through one-on- one functional fitness appointments with our exercise physiologists, partner training and fitness classes. Our goal is to reduce barriers to physical activity — for everyone.
