UPCOMING EVENTS VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT MADD ABOUT VOLUNTEERS

Rita Goodson of Simpsonville is our Volunteer Spotlight for the month of August. Rita serves on the Walk Like MADD Upstate planning committee and volunteers at the walk. Rita also attends Kendra Scott Giveback Day to encourage shoppers to Give Back to MADD! Rita has an incredible story of surviving her crash. She shares “I started with MADD for the first time in 2014 in Columbia. My daughter was an intern for MADD. She became involved after my husband and I were hit by a drunk driver in October 2012. The first year at Walk Like MADD in Columbia, I sat under a tent and shared my story. The next year I walked half of it. The next year I completed it. I was the last one to finish but, I finished! The next year we were part of the planning committee for the Walk like MADD Upstate. We have been on that committee ever since. MADD has been very supportive of me from attending the court case to going back to support me at the parole hearing. I think that made a big difference too. I love doing my part alongside MADD to spread awareness about driving under the influence.“ Rita looks forward to seeing you at Walk Like MADD Upstate!

MADD SOUTH CAROLINA

MADD South Carolina released the 2024 Court Monitoring Report. The report was released at a press conference event on July 30, 2024. This report is a product of MADD South Carolina’s Court Monitoring program. MADD SC monitors the outcomes of first offense misdemeanor DUI cases in seven large South Carolina counties: Berkeley, Charleston, Greenville, Horry, Lexington, Richland, and Spartanburg. The program’s goals are to compile relevant statistics regarding the dispositions of DUI cases in the courtrooms, to raise awareness of the level of public concern regarding the dispositions of DUI cases, and to report information on the dispositions of DUI cases in order to make improvements to the DUI enforcement, prosecution and/or adjudication systems.
