To be willing and glad to do the un recognized work, work . . . that nobody ever dreams of praising, just to do that, year in and year out, that is a sharp test; but the Spirit-filled soul can do it. In this dispensation o f the Spirit, it is our bounden duty and supremest privilege, moment by moment, to be so filled with the Spirit that we may walk unscathed and unafraid upon the many seas of trouble and temptation that beset our path down here> ‘ Then “Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care; Not a blast: of hurry, touch the spirit there.” , — S elected . “ Our Father which art in heaven’* !(Lk. 11 : 2 ). When our Lord taught His disciples how to pray, it was thus He said they should begin. They were not to come to infinite power, or to unknowable mystery, or to inaccessible light, but to Fatherhood. This precious name at the gateway makes the approach easy. The name assures us of love and care. . . . It gives us also un hindered access to the divine presence. The children of a great king are not kept waiting at their father’s door as strangers are. God’s children have perfect liberty in His presence. They can never come at an untimely hour. He is never too busy to see them and to listen to their words of love and prayer.. In the midst of the affairs of the vast universe, He thinks of His humblest child in this great world. ia|§-J. R. But I want to say quite definitely that my own con viction is that while the gift of the Holy Ghost is the rightful possession of every regenerate soul, the fullness of the Holy Ghost is not known unless He has been appropriated along the line of well-known and clearly taught conditions in the Wdrd of God. . . . “The promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” I lay that upon you, Christians, as a promise to be held on to, and to be claimed with every fiber o f your spiritual ambition, until the fullness of it has begun to penetrate your experience and soul; a free gift, as the Greek says, not a thing to be purchased, but a thing to be received. — H arrington C.
