WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT LEAD-BASED PAINT?
Many houses and condominiums built before 1978 may have paint that contains high levels of lead (called lead based paint). Buyers are encouraged to check for lead before buying or renovating pre-1978 housing. Federal law requires individuals to receive certain information regarding lead-based paint before buying. Sellers must disclose known information on lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards before selling a house. Sales contracts must include a disclosure about lead-based paint. Buyers have up to 10 days to check for lead. Renovators disturbing more than two square feet of painted surfaces must give you a pamphlet from the EPA entitled "Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home." Ask your agent for additional information and a copy of the pamphlet.
