radically changing, there is absolutely no doubt as to God’s eternal hatred for sin, which He has judged and pun ished through the centuries. This gen eration will not be able to escape, for he who sows the wind must reap also the whirlwind. This places an even greater responsibility upon those of us who know and love the Lord for we have the privilege and opportunity to live before others the way in which God has ordained in His Word. Let us never forget we are living epistles for Christ, known and read of all men. * You don't need to furnish references when you borrow trouble. * * * ONLY BELIEVE That famous Bible teacher, Dr. Harry Ironside, relates that a man he sought to lead to the Lord couldn’t seem to accept the fact that believing in Christ was all that was necessary for salvation. The fellow felt it was far too easy and that something else would have to be done by him. He was a member of the church, he sang in the choir, and was helpful in the Sunday school program. He felt if anything would merit salvation it would be the things he was doing for God. Yet, un derstandably, the man had no inner satisfaction or real peace. One day he read the parable of the sower which tells us, “Then cometh the devil and taketh away the word out of their hearts lest they should believe and be saved.” All of a sudden the light dawned upon him. In amazement, he ex claimed to his wife, “Will you look at thatI Even the devil knows a man will be saved if he simply believes.” That was the turning point. The question was settled. Perhaps this has been of concern to you. Listen to these verses of Scripture, “That if thou shalt con fess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made un to salvation” (Rom. 10:9-10). * The simple reason so many people don't truly hunger for the things of God is be cause they're still spiritually dead. 20 * * * *
Killough who was on trial before him for murder. The jurist declared, “On three separate occasions this man vol untarily confessed having foully killed his wife, throwing her body on a dump heap like a piece of garbage. He even led police to the scene, yet the U.S. Court of Appeals has seen fit to throw out the confessions. Though it makes me almost physically ill, I must direct a verdict of acquittal. I feel I am pre siding not over a search for truth, but over an impossible farce. We know the man is guilty, but we sit here blind, deaf and dumb, and we cannot admit what we know. Tonight criminals can sleep better because of this action.” The article in the R eader ’ s D ig est sum marizes the conditions by observing, “The Supreme Court threatens to make a disgraceful farce of the American law enforcement program.” For the Christian, we cannot but feel that these are yet further signs of the times in which we’re living. The Bible definite ly tells us, “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” May the Lord help us to pray for those in authority over us that they might seek that true wisdom which God alone possesses and has promised to give us. * * * The sun will always set early for those who are content to live in the valley. * * * CHANGING MORAL STANDARDS One cannot but reflect on the radical difference between things today from what they were even a generation ago. Some of the contributing causes for the present moral breakdown are al most unlimited opportunities for the free expression of love, actually sex, with the virtual eradication of stand ards in morality, to say nothing of such old-fashioned ideas as ethics in business. We see a rapid decline in any real parental authority. Mothers and fathers no longer know where their teenagers are, and sometimes don’t even seem to ca/re. Church authority, too, has been scorned, as religious lead ers have failed to stress the relevancy of the Bible, even in such a period of desperate crisis as this. Because of the highly-touted “pill,” young people need not fear the problems of illegitimacy. While metis moral standards may be
