FROM MRS. UTAH AMERICA TO AVIATION SAFETY EXPERT
I am a full-blown safety geek, and now, thanks to Embry‑Riddle, I’ve landed my dream job,” said Hollinshead. “I feel like I’m part of something bigger here and can make a difference working with the team towards one goal — to make aviation as safe as possible.”
Hollinshead was chosen to represent her state as Mrs. Utah America for one year, which gave her the opportunity to educate people on POTS, provide support for others with the disorder and spread awareness. She advanced to the national Mrs. America level in Las Vegas — all while maintaining her studies and working toward the completion of her degree. Hollinshead’s efforts — and success — balancing competitions, family life and her studies didn’t go unnoticed in the Embry-Riddle community. “Brittany is an incredible role model of a visionary student with grit,” said Dr. Nicole Bier, assistant professor in the College of Aviation at Embry‑Riddle’s Worldwide Campus. After five years of hard work and dedication, she earned her B.S. in Safety Management and landed a role in the Flight Operations Safety Management System department at a major airline.
Brittany Hollinshead’s (’21, ’26) educational journey has been one of perseverance — and she credits Embry-Riddle Worldwide with helping her find the balance she needed to achieve her goals. After four years of service in the U.S. Army as a combat medic, Hollinshead’s time in the military ended when she began to have health problems. She was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition that disrupts autonomic body processes like blood pressure and heart rate. After several years of staying home to care for her four children, Hollinshead decided to return to school and pursue a career in aviation safety — with Embry-Riddle standing out as the place to be. “The reputation of the school spoke for itself,” she said.
