Workday Tip: Set a reminder to check your payslip on payday to catch any discrepancies early.

Workday Points of Interest: What You Need to Know Benefit Information within Workday

While there is a Benefits screen within Workday, please note that the only benefit information displayed is your 401(k) deferral election. To make any changes to your 401(k) deferral or to update your 401(k) beneficiaries, please visit the John Hancock Retirement Plan Services website at myplan.johnhancock.com.

All other benefit enrollments, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, are managed through EOI/ bswift at benefits.walshgroup.com. This information feeds into Workday as Payroll Input Data and is reflected in your paycheck deductions. We recommend that employees regularly review their benefit deductions on their payslips within Workday to ensure accuracy.

Beneficiaries for your benefit plans (other than 401(k)) are also maintained at benefits.walshgroup.com and should be reviewed and updated as needed.

Benefits Open Enrollment for the 2026 benefit plan year will be conducted in November 2025. Additional information and instructions regarding the enrollment process will be shared by email as the date approaches. Please watch for important communications to ensure you do not miss any deadlines or updates. Compensation Grades, Tiers, and Their Importance in Workday In Workday, Compensation Grades and Tiers are assigned directly to a Non-Trade Job Profile to help define the appropriate pay structure for a given position. This ensures consistency, fairness, and compliance across the organization. The Compensation Grade outlines the overall pay range (minimum, midpoint, and maximum) for a specific job or group of jobs. It is tied to market data and internal compensation review, ensuring roles are aligned with industry standards and organizational equity.

The Tier provides an additional level of specificity within a salary grade based on the physical work location of employee. Tiers help ensure that employees within the same job profile can be differentiated appropriately for pay purposes. Assigning the correct Compensation Grade and Tier to each Non-Trade Job Profile is essential to: promote internal equity by aligning similar roles with consistent pay standards, support compliance with labor laws and compensation policies, and provide a structured foundation for merit increases, promotions, and budgeting.

During the annual review process, an employee’s Comp Ratio (short for Comparative Ratio) is reviewed. This ratio compares an employee’s current salary to the midpoint of the assigned Compensation Grade and Tier for that specific employee. Reviewing Comp Ratios ensures that salary decisions are made based on data and aligned with pay guidelines.

Cost Center and Location In Workday, it’s important to understand the difference between Cost Center and Location, as each serves a different purpose within the system:

• Cost Center refers to the primary project or overhead cost center where an employee’s time is charged. • Location refers to the physical location the employee is working.

In most cases, an employee’s cost center and location will be the same, but there are exceptions. An example would be someone working at a regional office but charging their time a project at a different location. When trade employees were initially imported into Workday, they were assigned to a general cost center labeled TRADE trade employees. As changes are entered into Workday, we ask that you update trade employee records to reflect the correct cost center where they are currently working. This adjustment is important for accurate cost center-based reporting within Workday. Maintaining this information helps ensure we have a clear, real-time view of project allocations and workforce distribution.

Feedback within Workday Using the Feedback feature in Workday can enhance the Performance Evaluation process by providing a centralized and continuous record of employee contributions and achievements. Rather than relying solely on memory or sporadic documentation during annual reviews, managers and team members can capture real-time feedback throughout the year. Beyond formal evaluations, Workday’s Feedback feature is also an excellent tool for recognizing and reinforcing positive behaviors across teams. Employees can quickly and easily share constructive or appreciative feedback with co-workers, subordinates, or supervisors regarding specific tasks, projects, or collaborations.

Workday System Update Workday releases system updates twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, to deliver new features, enhancements, and improvements to the platform. These updates help keep the system secure, efficient, and aligned with evolving business needs. This September marked Walsh’s first Workday system upgrade, and we’re pleased to share that the process went smoothly—with no issues to report. In preparation for the upgrade, team members across various departments participated in extensive testing to ensure all key processes continued to function correctly after the update. Their efforts played a vital role in helping us identify potential risks and confirm a seamless transition.

Workday Reminders Adding a Workday Photo

Adding your photo to Workday helps personalize our workplace and makes it easier for colleagues across departments to recognize and connect with you. Your photo should be a clear image of you, professionally appropriate, and suitable to be displayed in a system visible to all employees. To upload your photo, simply navigate to your Workday profile, under actions, click on the personal data and then edit photo. Let’s put faces to names and build a stronger sense of community! Below is an example of a Team within Workday.

Paid Time Off Rollover The Paid Time Off “PTO” carryover process is now based on the calendar year rather than the payroll year. Starting in 2025, any accrued but unused PTO will be reviewed for carryover on the last Sunday in December—this year, that’s December 28. Previously, this was done based on the payroll year-end (December 14).

Employees will see any carryover updates reflected in their PTO balance on Monday, December 29.

Review of Payslips Employees should review their payslips each pay period. It is easy to review by following the following steps:

1. From the Workday homepage, type “Payslips” in the search bar. 2. Select “My Payslips” from the results. 3. Click on any payslip to view or download a PDF version.

Or you can obtain your payslip the following way:

1. From your profile screen, select “Pay” from the left hand side listing. 2. Then click on “Payslips” from the options across the top of the screen. 3. From that screen you can either view or print your payslips.

It is important that employee’s review their earnings, tax withholdings, benefit deductions and net pay on a regular basis. Please use the listing below to send any questions or concerns you may have after reviewing your payslip:

Trade Absences As a reminder all trade time entries, including any type of absences, TPTO, local sick pay, etc. should be entered through HCSS and not in Workday. Entering these transactions into the wrong system can lead to errors in payroll processing and tracking of time. Please remind your trade employees not to use Workday to request or report any absences. However, they can view their TPTO balance within Workday.

If your jobsite team needs to review or verify the number of hours an employee has accrued, please reach out directly to your Regional HR contact. They can provide accurate and up-to-date information and help clarify any discrepancies.
