Frenchman’s Creek resident Lesley Koeppel is celebrating an exciting milestone—she has just published her first book! How to Be the “Perfect” Mother-in-Law: A Lighthearted Guide for Moms of Married Sons is a witty and insightful look at one of life’s most delicate relationships. Drawing on years of experience as a psychotherapist, Lesley offers a playful yet thoughtful guide for mothers of sons who are dating, newly engaged, or already
married. It’s filled with gentle humor, relatable stories, and practical wisdom—making it both a fun read and a wonderful gift. Lesley shared that this book is a delightful departure from the deeper, more serious topics she typically explores in her private practice and in her thoughtful writings on her Substack column (lesleykoeppel.substack.com). This book allows her to share her lighter side and her gift for finding connection and humor in everyday relationships. “I have a daughter-in-law now and another daughter-in-law on the way in February,” she said. However, “I must follow my own advice. But it isn’t always easy… not even for me. My intention is to be the best mother-in-law possible to them.” Lesley is incredibly passionate about the topic, noting the book was a labor of love to write. “In my private practice, I was seeing this dynamic play out over and over again,” she said. “Whether it was a daughter-in-law complaining about her mother-in-law or vice versa, it happened frequently. I created a seminar for the mothers- in-law based on anonymous feedback I got from daughters-in-law, even if there was a great relationship. From the examples I shared at the seminar, mothers-in-law were laughing and crying.
