My Miraculous Lady
Arlene Diaz
I see her standing there, poised. We finished battling our villain for the day. I lean on my staff, waiting for her next move since I consid - er her the leader. I’ve been told by her that we were partners, but I secretly know she’s the leader. As I’m wait - ing, I start to reminisce about our first encounter together. We were chosen with magi - cal jewels to keep the people of Paris safe. We were new - bies and had no idea how to control our powers. After a lot of practice, we learned to trust and lean on one an - other when the time came
during battles. We balanced each other out perfectly. That was almost four years ago, and I still don’t know who she is behind that mask. I know how important it is to her that we keep our identities a secret. She’d worry for my safety if anyone found out who I was, but that’s what I love about her. The way she cares so much about the people of Paris. The way she makes me feel. I start to notice her walk - ing towards me, and I put my focus on her. I straighten my posture as I now realize I’m leaning so much it looks like I’m slouching. She asks me if I’m okay while raising her eyebrow. I look at her with a small smile, while wondering how I got so lucky to meet someone as miraculous as her. She calls out my name, before I pull myself back into my thoughts again. I look up at her simply saying, “It all started with hello.” (With thanks to Ashley Benedicto for my ending quote.)
