Those Damned Daffodils (An Un-Romantic Poem)
Andrew Stephens
I wonder if the Romantics while wandering through lake districts ever suffered from pollinoses-- or seasonal allergies-- out among the flowers, beneath the trees snuffing and shaking with a sneeze. Then later, when on a couch they lie with runny nose and itchy eye and crumpled tissues strewn around too sick to write or go to town, if then their heart with hatred fills and curses those damn daffodils.
