H is experience as a commercial property solicitor helped to shape this year’s winner of the Law Lecturer of the Year award, insofar as he soon realised that the most rewarding part of the job was helping trainees and other junior lawyers to progress their own careers. “It soon became apparent to me that

my true passion was for fostering knowledge and understanding in others, so the move into higher education was a logical progression,” says Benjamin Jones, senior lecturer and LPC director at the University of South Wales. He now teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students a wide variety of subjects

– including equity and trusts, land law, business law and practice, and taxation – and is heavily involved with the university’s pro bono legal advice clinic. Ben thrives on helping students to “understand and enjoy complex, non- intuitive subjects that are traditionally seen as dry and difficult to grasp – a
